SONNET!!!

Wow, it has been way to long since the last time I check out HearPeers. I saw on MED-EL group on FB this morning that FDA has APPROVED SONNET and WaterWare for RONDO! FINALLY!!! But...it will not go on sale until Spring of 2015. It cost around $9,600 or maybe up to 25% discount for trade in with your current processors (Opus 2, etc). I was reading comments that some people got Voucher (free upgrade for future processor if they don't want RONDO or something like that) starting back in September 2014. I had double surgery back in June 4th, 2014 and activated both RONDOs on the 18th. Before I went in for the activation I found out about the SONNET and told my audiologist not to open the Opus2 hoping I can replace it with SONNET for free....or will I have to pay a little more since I didn't get the voucher? How does it work? When I watch the video I noticed what it look like a button between the 2 microphones...is that what change the program so I won't have to use the FineTuner remote (like from microphone to telicol for telephone or blutooth)? It gets annoying having to carry the remote all the time and watch my friend that have Cochlear N6 just press the button on his processor before answering the phone...and sometimes I forget to bring the remote with me...it's getting old. After about 6 months my RONDO still do not stay on my head first thing in the morning when I wake up. I got #4 Magnet strength and I had to wear headband for about an hr...I guess to push some fluid out so it can hold...my audiologist has tried to request a #5 but Med-El rep said that's the strongest they got. I'm hoping with SONNET I won't have to worry much about strongest strength to stay on my implants. We will see. Anyway, anybody that have SONNET tell me about your experience :-D

I don't have the sonnet but am looking into upgrading. I saw that they are giving a voucher but it cannot remember what it is for. I will try to find out.

I believe the implant was approved around December or January and the processor shortly after. Can't wait to see one. The processor is smaller as it only uses 2 disposable batteries. I don't think a rechargeable battery will be available until sometime in 2016.

I guess this was the situation in USA if I remember well?

If you are asking smaller proc why don't you just take RONDO - then people could switch us!  :P

Ivana, the sonnet is smaller than the opus. Only uses 2 batteries instead of three. I am not looking for a smaller one but would take it if given.

I think I will stick with the BTE . Just my preference. So thankful to med-el for having the technology where we have a choice.

Of course, Adam - pardon me for my wanna-be joke: each one of us choose what he or she thinks is best for them; and each new technology has its advantages so: why not? That is why I would like to test SAMBA and possibly switch to it if it would suit me.

Didn't have in mind that you need so much batteries :(  Amade needs only one.

Has anybody had the opus 2 then upgraded to the Sonnet? What differences did you notice? Very curious as there is a very good chance I will have the opportunity to upgrade.

I'm wearing Sonnet, the magnet #4 is the strongest available, and it is weak on my thick hair. I thought it could be swelling, but seems it it not, because I can clearly feel the implant under the skin.

I never used Opus or anything else, so I cannot compare. I like Sonnet, it uses 2 batteries, it is very lightweight, but I'm wearing Ronto at the moment, because rondo has the string, which can be pinned to the hair, and prevent it from falling down.

Hi Aya,

Did you try wearing the coil under your hair? Just part your hair with your fingers and then place the coil in position. This may help your connection. Good luck.

Since the sides of my head are shaved, I don't have much to contribute to this portion of the conversation :D

Hi Aya,

Welcome to the community!

Where are you from? Can you explain if there is any difference btw Rondo and Sonnet taking into account - feeling of hearing?

Hi Ivana,

Thank you! :)

I'm from San Francisco Bay Area. I don't feel any differences btw Rondo or Sonnet yet. Probably because I still can't recognize many sounds yet in both processors.

Thank you! Mary I will try it.

From what I understand, there should be no difference in hearing quality between the opus 2 and the rondo. Just different package. That being said, some people perceive a difference from one to the other, and you know what they say, perception is reality.

I think once everything gets approved for the sonnet here in the U.S. There will be a big difference between the sonnet and opus 2 as well as rondo.

I heard of one person that is very experienced with all 3 and said that the sonnet was like night and day compared to the other 2.

Patiently waiting for the FDA to hurry up and approve everything

I have read an experience from one german-languages forum about CI: hard to say - but I guess you should get far better sound quality.

For instance, SAMBA technically is not much different, but sound quality is not possible to compare: totally different feeling.

I also am waiting for Sonnet. i have a Rondo and love it. I heard that Sonnet microphone covers are an issue.

I've had the Sonnet for two months. I also have the Rondo, but have not been using it because I wanted to learn on one device and I felt more comfortable with the Sonnet. So I really can't compare sound quality at the moment.

Marcia . . . I haven't had any issues with the microphone cover, but the Sonnet came with two replacement microphone covers and I have been told I should change it every 3-4 months.

The only issue I know of is that MED-EL does not have a currently supply of green colored microphone covers.

I found the Rondo has better sound qualities that the Opus2, but, I have also had more problems with the Opus2.

I read so where else that there was an "issue" with the covers but that was it. No details
