  1. Hi there, my name is Jess I was born with severe hearing loss and I recieved my left implant before the age of 2. I recieved my second implant at the age of 11 and can remeber the process so I am happy to answer any questions. I am now 19 with 2 nucleus 6 implants and I am living away from home at University training to be a nurse. I have never signed, my parents tried to teach me but I chose to speak and live in the hearing world. I did my level 1 BSL 1 year ago but I have forgotten it already as it is never used. I have 100% hearing loss and never imagined Id be able to be a nurse

  3. Hi Mary Anne, at the end, I wish you a pleasant journey - follow your dream and do not ever be discouraged by making you your own limits. Instead of that - go beyond it as further you can. All experiences here are unique, so if you have any question or possibly obstacle - there is an answer. Practice, Be Patient and - persevere. :)

  4. Hi Mary Anne, Thanks for reaching out to the community! As the others mentioned, it can take time to be able to enjoy music with your implant. For some, they can enjoy music again straight away after activation, while for others, they may need to do rehabilitation at home and with a rehab specialist to get the most out of their device. I would like to put you in contact with two people who I think will be able to offer some great support to you: - our in-house "musicologist" called Johanna Pätzhold who is actually a singer and a MED-EL CI user. - one of our Headquarters rehabil

I had horrible reaction to the anesthesia last time. It was awful awful, I know how you feel. Went to my revision surgery and made sure they know what happened, they said they'd do their best. I didn't expect miracles but I had ABSOLUTELY no nausea or vomiting or dizziness. I keep thinking it can't be real. I wish for you the same for next attempt!

thank you so much! *Update* Revision surgery went very well with Dr. Pillsbury at UNC, Chapel Hill North Carolina. He was able to achieve full insertion for all 12 electrodes. An X-Ray imaging was handed to my husband in the waiting room. There was restriction zone he encountered after inserting the first 5 electrodes but Pillsbury, used his own developed tool and was able to break through it. Then he said he inserted more and at the end of it everything went well. Now there is more area fore stimulation. Everyone at the ambulatory care center were exceptional in professi

When I first received my implant I could hear the noises but struggled to distinguish them. my description is a bit complex, imagine complete silence is the darkest black possible at first sound is just white, silence is black and sound is white, then over time you get some shade of grey, you might be able to hear slight differences in sounds you can tell that there are 2 different voices and work out who they belong to. After a while you get pastel colours, you can hear sounds like birds tweeting and the phone ringing music etc then slowly the colours get bolder and brighter and there is

  10. Hello and welcome!! Yes this game is not a quick fix. But it’s a game changer for sure!! Aural rehab will help you to get the best results for sure. I’m two years in and and still gaining or improving. My second implant-aversary was a few days ago.
