    Differences in Cochlear Implants

as I know, people with a shorter electrode, that some surgeons use with EAS implant (like Flex 24), hear all range of the sounds without any compromising in speech comprehension and even music appreciation. It is rather about the individual brain plasticity than the length of electrode array. I was implanted with the Flex 28 which can be considered as a Standard length electrode. Despite this I have a surprising amount of residual hearing preserved. I was told that MedEL atraumatic electrode array along with hearing preservation technique used during surgery play a bigger role in hearing

    My Journey

Hello All: I have to say that I am so glad that I had the Cochlear Implant surgery! For years (7 years to be exact), my doctor constantly asked me if I would consider the cochlear implant. He always said that he believe I would be a great candidate for the surgery and that he believe it would help me tremendously. I always told him I was not interested in having the surgery. Last August or September, I had to go to the doctor because my tinnitus in my left ear was increasingly loud and painful (I have had tinnitus in my left ear since elementary school - it's permanent, 24/7/365). My Journey

Every time I make a phone call, I am beyond in awe at just how well I can hear on the phone! It's becoming more and more "natural" - I don't even have to try. Before my implants, I'm telling you I had already accepted the fact that I would never be able to hear well on the phone for the rest of my life. After the implants - WOW! It's amazing! Being able to listen to the radio, being able to hear things clear. Sorry, I just had to post this update because even at work I am hearing on the phone (okay, it's speaker phone we were using, but still). For anyone who is considering the cochlear

    My Journey

Donna I am so happy that things are working out so well for you. The scariest step is always the first one. A lot of people have that fear of the unknown. Of course if you ask everyone, pretty much all will say that they wish they had not waited. Thank you so much for sharing as it will be a big encouragement for somebody trying to make the decision.
