Kara of Canada got a reaction from Mary Beth in Anyone using D-coils with Sonnets instead of DL-coils?
Yes I do have a D coil and DL coil. I prefer the D coil. I find the DL coil and the Synchrony implant with the spinning magnet doesn’t grab onto the right spot all the time. I have to fiddle with it more.

Kara of Canada got a reaction from Kylie in Seeking Implanted Musicians...
Hi welcome to Hear peers!! You have definitely come to the right place. I am also an amateur musician. Well I used to be more of a novice but not now. Well as your medical situation is unique to you we all have this! For me I couldn't go without being able to hear my kids. I couldn't hear my organ or guitar at all anymore. I made the decision to be implanted as well. After just three weeks I was able to hear my organ again!! I bawled my eyes out!! It's not perfect yet but I will get there. If it's possible for you. Go for two implants the sound quality is far more clear and concise. I have one implant now and one hearing aid. My implant is doing way better than my happening aided ear!! Others will tell you the same thing. Others will tell you about the different types of implants as well. I wish you all the best in your journey. Yes it's hard work with the rehab training but us worth every minute!!!

Kara of Canada got a reaction from Jewel in Fine Tuner
Here is the YouTube video that shows you how to change things on the fine tuner. If you can see in the picture the fine tuner see the buttons with the dots those are the program buttons 1,2,3,4 so depending on how many programs you have those would be the buttons to use.

I love the crunching leaves as well. I’m quite surprised how loud they sound.

Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Beth in Opportunities for meeting in person
I enjoy meeting other Med-El users in person, especially new friends I have made through social media forums.
Some ways I have been able to meet others so far.....
-I traveled to NC for a Hands On Hearing workshop. We organized meeting up for dinner the night before. Great times!
-I travel to NYC for my CI appts. We organized meeting up for dinner and a group of us from NY and NJ had a great meal together.
-I live in a rural area but there have been a few Med-El Mingle events within a 3 hour radius. I have attended 2 so far. It’s great to meet other Med-El users.
-One of the first Med-El users I met traveled a couple of hours from her home to meet up while I was on vacation in Florida. A fun afternoon on the beach.
Some of these friendships have extended way past our shared CI experiences. We continue to get together as friends and share good times.
Some dear friends and I are still awaiting our first in person meetings. I am looking forward to those.
After spending 3 days at the Med-El Meetup last month, I am reminded of how powerful and meaningful these in person meetings can be for us.
I encourage you to reach out to others (through HearPeers or other forums) and meet for coffee or dinner or a walk at a park.
We have a lot to offer each other on our journeys. I hope you make some lifelong friendships this way too.
And maybe post a picture to share. ?

Kara of Canada reacted to Ivana Marinac in Newbie from the US
@Debbie from US
hello again,
pardon me for not involving myself before for a response.....
Mary Beth was on the path I wanted to explain, you are a classic (up to now) patient for a single CI which would really revive your hearing on the affected side.
I stand behind this although Prof.Tucci is on the other side - she’s really a giant in this world of implant technology.
But, I have seen people fron the U.S. getting unilateral CI - I don’t quite understand your conditions but I have taught that everything is not possible only - if it is not tried.
Regarding me, I am “the expert” because I wear them now more than 5 years. My professional skills (I am an ENT in Europe) allow me to understand the problem from the scientific and health side, but financial part is pretty cloudy for me.
My indication for the implantation was a classic conductive hearing loss. Regarding you, there is no doubt you will have certain benefits, although I am known for “chasing the stars” so I always prefer the best possible, not the best accessible solution for a patient.
Good luck - please let us now a out your experiences!
If there is anyhow I can help..... please, just ask!

Kara of Canada reacted to Megan L. in New to Heer Peers, Hello from Delaware!
@Valentin
Happy 2 Year Hearing Anniversary!!! Mine is tomorrow ?
It was hard but definitely worth it. I still continue to hear new sounds as surprising as that is.
Hope all is well with you Valentin!

Kara of Canada reacted to Valentin in New to Heer Peers, Hello from Delaware!
Yesterday marked the two years since my activation. Two years since I returned to the world of sounds. It was hard, but it was worth.

Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Featherston in Bilateral Bliss
Redid it a bit, does is the scansion any better?
morning comes, the day begins, I hear what people say and then
a song is heard, more meetings held. the day progresses
full of sound and I can mostly hear what's there I realize that
nothing hurts and I say oh, Hallelujah.

Kara of Canada reacted to Megan L. in Storing your stuff
@Mary Featherston ? those are a lot of books! Maybe Will them to a book lover this way it won’t feel like a huge clean up job. It’d be more like discovering burried treasures and hidden gems ?

@Megan L. here are pictures from the eBay listing. Outside and inside. There are more drawers than that, it's just representative.

Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Featherston in November and December 2018 dates
Second mapping of my second CI today: added lots of volume and it's helped a lot. Still not all the way to clarity, but I need the volume for rehab!

Yes I do as well.

Kara of Canada reacted to Megan L. in It's the Little Things
@Jewel the list will only help your Audi get your MAPping right ? so the more detailed the better!
My office setting is awesome on my fine tuner. I forgot my fine tuner one day and I could tell the difference. I don’t understand why people talk like they’re in a library!!!! I believe it. People are extremely ignorant and extremely ballsy. I think it’s time to give them a dose of their own medicine or at least let them know you’re aware of what they’re saying (even if you don’t - fake it til you make it!). But no matter what don’t let it affect your confidence or distract you from the great things you are experiencing in your hearing journey. You are doing wonderful!! Stay positive and focused ??

Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Featherston in Training speech in noise
I watched some captioned TV last night (same day as activation) and could tell the difference between when I started and when I stopped. The new CI still needs loads of work but it's nice to see progress.

Kara of Canada got a reaction from Mary Beth in Status on bilateral CIs for adults in various countries
So Canada, well Ontario to be specific. We adults get one implant covered by our health care system. Children get two. We are given one processor and a five year warranty on all parts except the rechargeable battery charger. After that we pay out of pocket for upgrades and parts etc. I’m not sure how that works for kids. Each province here has their own standards.

Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Beth in HearPeers and its awesome members
Spending time, through social media and in person, with other CI users is so important. I’m looking forward to meeting more CI users in person.
We should schedule informal HearPeers members meetups!

Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Featherston in Activation May 28
@Jewel - come to our house. We have a 17-year old cat who meows at about 80 decibels. Our theory is that he doesn't see or hear well anymore, so he occasionally wakes up and just sort of yells so we know where he is. You could probably hear him without your CI.
