So here’s a new one. I was testing for loudness in the electrodes. I noticed that the pitch changed as she increased the volume. She said that it’s because sometimes the electrode array is close to the canal and stimulates more than one hair cell! Was strange for me. But overall still progressing. Ear one was a bit behind so we remapped that too. Told to train my ears with background noise now. That will be tricky! But new!! So forward we go!!

Well, I'm only four hours into this.  I can say that while my second CI sounds exactly as a newly activated CI would be expected to sound (namely, pretty bad) the two together already sound better than either of the two individually.  That's particularly cool.
I'm looking forward to getting the new one rehabbed to the point where voices sound a bit more normal!

Glad to hear u are doing well.  I feel like there is a little man in my head talking to me.  Beeps beginning to fade. Not very robotic as I had anticipated.  Still have a lot of dried blood in ear therefore might take a little longer.  Next week will try E A S. just gave me 2 programs for this week. The noises I hear . Water. Cars in th street. Telephones . Has really made me want to practice

I love the crunching leaves as well. I’m quite surprised how loud they sound.

    @Valentin
I read that it is recommended that you have the mapping details on a flash drive or printed out so that if you have an emergency abroad the CI can be mapped correctly.
If one had such an emergency in Jamaica (s)he would be in big trouble!

    Hi @Mary Beth,

Thanks for pointing that out - I can see that is must be quite confusing due to the page layout and our Web Team is working on a solution.

In the meantime, you can go directly to episode 1 here: https://www.medel.com/community/veras-journey#title-part1. The link mentioned in the  video (https://www.medel.com/veras-journey) also redirects to the same page, though you have to scroll down to see Episode 1.

We hope to correct this for episode 2.
    Kind regards,

    Mary

Yeah, @Mary Beth I think you can be just a BIT persuasive!
I agree, it's very cool what the forum is becoming since Med-El fixed the functional problems.

While participating in the Med-El Meetup, I found myself talking repeatedly about how awesome everyone is in our HearPeers forum.  It seemed that most people thought HearPeers was a forum for people just starting on their CI journeys or in the early stages of gathering information.

To me, HearPeers is a community of Med-El users, and a few users of other brands.  It is a place to celebrate WOW moments, ask questions, share listening difficulties and tips, and so much more.  Many of us have developed lifelong friendships which extend outside the HearPeers forum.

HearPeers has not always been such a vibrant, awesome, diverse community.  I am thankful to each HearPeers member for making HearPeers what it is today....my favorite online community of CI users.

I must’ve been a bit persuasive as several participants have joined!  Smile.

So thank you for making HearPeers so awesome.

Here is the YouTube video that shows you how to change things on the fine tuner. If you can see in the picture the fine tuner  see the buttons with the dots those are the program buttons  1,2,3,4  so depending on how many programs you have those would be the buttons to use.

WOw WOW WOW! I’m so excited that you got to go @Mary Beth  since you are one on the most knowledgeable people on HP and was sure happy to hear you had a great time!
The Austrian Alps are so beautiful! I miss them all the time. My father was from Austria and lived in a village called Vandans. Which is about two hours or so from Innsbruck. I would love to go back again!

    Hi @Jewel,

You shouldn't need to take off your audio processor for going through x-rays etc, however, do inform airport staff. You can read more about travelling with a cochlear implant here: https://blog.medel.com/traveling-with-a-cochlear-implant/.
    Thanks,

I’m in the club too! Yes it wasn’t much for me to be comfortable without soundas I did it have much before my second ear was implanted or activated. The pillow thing is taking a turn for the best finally. I can sleep for a few hours on the first ear and maybe half an hour at the most on the new ear which is almost 6 months in! Plus @Nikki and I will be at our mapping’s at the same time and day! Kind of cool!

It’s very individual I would think. It just one of those things that adds up on the pile of risk factors. There’s so many that are a factor so don’t think because your deaf you expected to have dementia. Think of it like driving a car. Just because you can doesn’t mean you will die from a fatal accident. It’s also new data which maybe bound to change.

I have the painful tip of the ear. Well it’s very faint now but it bothers me if I touch it or lay on it. (the new ear) it feels way better than the first one I might add. Which is still in recovery almost three years in.
