Kara of Canada reacted to Mary Beth in Pool time fun!
Each CI company has approached waterwear use a bit differently.  This week we have been in a record breaking heatwave so we have had several pool parties to keep everyone from melting.  As you know, I just LOVE my Rondos in waterwear covers.  Although it took me several tries to master putting on the waterwear cover easily, the sound quality is just amazing.  And comfort can not be beat with the Rondos since it is form fitting....no excess bulk.  Since the Rondo has a windblock cover, the waterwear covers do not make any unpleasant sound over the Rondo mic.

Usually I switch back to my BTE processors after swimming is finished.  This week I noticed that I had just left the waterwear on my Rondos for the rest of the night.  That is how awesome everything sounds with the Rondo waterwear covers.

Many times people comment on wanting a waterwear solution that can be reused more times.  It gets expensive using waterwear covers.  I wonder how Med-El can do that and still retain the awesome sound quality?  My friends with other brand CIs keep commenting on things sounding muffled in their water systems and they need to increase volume in order to hear a bit better.  I hope that Med-El can retain the awesome sound quality of Rondos in waterwear if they produce a different water solution that can be used more times.

I am thankful I fell under Med-El promotions in the US which allowed me to get Rondos as well as BTE processors.  I REALLY am thankful for my Rondos in waterwear.

I would go with my gut on that one. You will. Need to hear and do what you can in a hectic environment. Getting a CI doesn’t mean instant hearing. It will take months of training  to get normal levels of sound and speech recognition. It happens at different paces for everyone. It also depends on how much rehab you do. The more the better! Best of luck!

My new wow momment! I was able to hear fire works inside the house. At first it sounded like someone was banging a hammer somewhere in the house. Then I counted the timing of the noise it dawned on me “fireworks,” wow crazy who knew!!

Hi I do have an electrode turned off. It doesn’t affect my outcome to hear at all. The specific electrode was drawing too much power. Audi said it may not have lined up perfect with the right hair cells in the cochlea. On my new one I do not have any turned off. I also got the longer electrode this time. So who knows! As for music it took me three months with my first to even begin to understand it. I would listen to the songs over and over to get it to sound good. I’m not big on new music as I didn’t listen for almost ten years because I couldn’t understand it. So I am still a work in progress! It will take me years to get where @Mary Beth is lol!  Practice ,Patience perserverance! Only way to get there!! Best of luck!

I do have improved speech recognition with two. What the Audi was saying was she was looking to see how the brain was doing with one then with two. How things evolve going ahead. So we shall see. I do hear better with two.

Lol pets are amazing! I was walking my dog the other day and I notice I could hear her sniffing. I could only hear it if it was right next to me before. But as she walking and sniffing it was so amazing!

Things are going well @Megan L.  speech is up there now and still working on it. I’m not loving the testing I get since I’m in a study group with my new ear. But that’s ok. Someone has to do it so that Canada will consider two implants for adults. Or at least Ontario. As for wow moments they are there but seem to be subtle these days. I was listening yesterday during training and was able to hear and not continually follow along. So it’s getting there. Also being able to have a conversation in a noisy environment is getting better too.

I heard someone say they changed from ceramic to titanium for durability reasons. If someone got hit in the head the ceramic would break. Where as titanium is much much more durable.

Welcome @2Ears2Hear I have bilateral implants as I wanted to hear with both of my ears! Neither of them are any good alone so I got both done finally. Speech and music comphrension is different for everyone. But it gets the best results you need to work really hard with aural rehab everyday for at least three months. I am happy to say that it a phenomenal achievement to hear with theses two implants! I would not change it for the world. Yes it was two surgeries for me and lots of training but believe me it’s worth it. Plus the quiet night sleep too! Since I do not wear them to sleep. They go in the drying kit at night.

As for maestro 7, it’s not yet available here in Canada. My Audi is going for training on June 20 to learn about it. She said it then takes time for the IT dept to get it up and running. So she said end of August.

@Renachelw I was going to say that too. My new ear still sounds off. Sounds like people have cotton in their mouth. Which I am starting to notice is going away slowly. So yes it takes time. The more you practice the better things will sound. Music I’d don’t push till month two or three. It took a long time the first round for it to sound good. But I had to listen and re-listen to get it sounding good. So chin up you are well on your way.

Wow been a wile since an update. So hearing is coming along well with two implants now. I just had my one month mapping and it was amazing. My first ear the right one is preforming the same. Which I wasn’t sure. Since the second one was turned one it was feeling as thought it was hindering the first. But it wasn’t. As for the second it is catching up rapidly. It’s at 48% already! With the two together in a quiet setting it’s at 90% in a noise setting they’re at 74%. So I couldn’t be happier. Even though speech isn’t sounding normal it is there! So I have to keep up my good work as my Audi said and don’t change anything! So onward with audiobooks it is! How are things @Mary Featherston? @Renachelw And @stranger? Or @Dave in Pittsburgh  been a awhile.

That's cool @Mary Featherston, that is almost the way I hear songs now, I can hear the voices but also hear beeps. But the good things is that I can recognise some of them wit my CI only. Let's see how my appointment fares today.
