Yes you're right @Mary Featherston. My audi and surgeon were impressed. My audi had thought it may have taken me up to a year to make out speech. Glad that was not the case.

And then, as I recall, you made really fast progress!

Activation day I heard no actual words. It all sounded like alien sounds or something reminiscent of the Twilight Zone. It was overwhelming when I was in a crowd, hearing all these strange sounds. I think I started making out speech on day 3.

Megan L. got a reaction from Mary Beth in Soon to be bilateral or considering bilateral
@Dani
Your experience with the second side is so interesting! How’s it sounding?
My left side did all the work for 4 years and the right HA side just hung out - so much that my brain no longer identified the low battery beeps. I find the 2nd CI side is bouncing back quicker to where the 1st side currently is. It’s odd but curious at the same time. And of course aural rehab helps 👍 I had my 2nd fitting today with my audiologist and he said that the new CI side has significantly more sound tolerance than last week. I was surprised at that. He also adjusted the volume/power to be similar to the left side. I have 2 more new programs to get through and then he said he will try and balance the 2 sides out 🥳

I don't know, I can't compare. I never had a Mickey-Mouse effect. No one used He (helium) but SF6 (sulphurhexafluoride) 🤪

To celebrate the International CI Day on February 25th, we'll do a post on Social Media with quotes, pictures, videos and stories from MED-EL recipients, showing how CIs can change people's lives. We'd love to share hearing journeys of members of the HearPeers Forum in this special post then as well! If you like to be part of it, pleas send us your video messages, photos or written stories about your hearing journey via direct message or post them in a comment below! Megan L. reacted to John R in Distorted Static when processor is Off
I guess it must be, these forums are huge for information, as obviously there are so many details and variations that are different. I guess Audiologists etc forget to warn you about all the possibilities. Then the wait between visits is so long and so many new things happen its both amazing but also frustrating and stressful

Thank You, I do intend to keep them going, I have my Switch on episode to get finished and then into the MAPping episodes its not exactly easy to get them done but I feel like its worth it.
I am more than open to any content requests or ideas people here may have. I do want the content to be raw and real.
That was always my goal.

Nobody told me either that my ears would pop for a month or so after surgery until I asked my surgeon about it at post op when I got my first CI. My second ear is still popping a little bit 4 weeks later but not as much. So the pressure has pretty much equalized 👍
My first ear sang the First Noel until activation and had ringing. The ringing has since subsided significantly but I can’t remember how long it took. I’m hoping my humming and buzzing subsides now that I have sound going in 🤞

I started a HP mail for January’s GoogleMeet. Look at the top under menu and select the envelope. Links to how to use GoogleMeet with free live captions on a computer and on a tablet are in the group HP mail.
