Hey @Daniel the Stranger nice to see you.  Or your cat, anyway.  🙂  I stopped using my hearing aid within a month of my first activation too.  It was amazing, really, what used to be my primary way to hear was suddenly just a minor nuisance.

Hi @Daniel the Stranger!  Good to see you.  I'm far from the youngest when I go to the meetings like that, but yes, it's fun there too!
And I'm reminded now that I have to get the dog treats to my brother's dog.....

That's nice, I do something of sorts over here in Adelaide.
My audiology Clinic schedule meetings along the year (3-4) something like that were they gather their patients and soon to be patients to different topics. I like to attend to give my part of the story and help people make decisions.
I'm always the youngest one, and it feels weird seeing all these oldies surrounding me

That's us!  On Friday I had a dental appointment, and as my dentist is over an hour from my new job I didn't go to work at all - went to the dentist, had lunch with a friend, and then worked from home in the afternoon.  My friend and I had a nice lunch at a Thai place across the street from my dentist's office and then popped into this shop around the corner - it's all dog stuff, treats and toys and beds and whatnot.  We were buying dog treats when a woman there asked me about my CIs, and we ended up talking for almost half an hour.  She was a writer, doing some stuff on contract for Cochlear Americas and just kept asking questions!  And me, I talk, you know?
We talked about the rehab process and what it's been like to be a CI recipient.  I always like to have a chance to talk about what an amazing (but not necessarily easy) thing it is to be a CI recipient.

Things are going well @Mary Beth I can't complain, I'm really happy with my CIs.
Communication at work has improved heaps and I'm not scared anymore to interact with students and staff. I don't forget that this is a long process, my Audiologist can't believe how patient and positive am I.

Yesterday I was able to use my new superpower for real:  we had an 8.5 hour flight and a toddler two rows ahead screamed for at least three of those hours (intermittently throughout the flight).  I just popped the magnets off my implants.  🙂

In my case I don't want to have anything to do with disposable batteries 😂
I used them for 35 years or so... not anymore, glad to use rechargeable batteries. I survived my trip to New Zealand last December using the rechargeable ones. Just pop them into the charger each night and of you go in the morning.

Update:  got the job!  I spoke to the hiring manager yesterday and he offered on the phone.  Tomorrow I'll accept it officially and talk to my current manager.  He already knows, of course - you can't apply intracompany without telling your manager.  So we'll start talking about transition and what to do with my current responsibilities.

All done and back at home! No dressing, just a cool head of staples. Gonna look awesome at work next week! I feel pretty good - bit dizzy and bit achy and my ear is numb, but overall not too bad. Just on panadol, no need for the hard stuff. Now relaxing on the couch watching Netflix 😁

I have been sent 4 audiology appointments! Nice to know ahead of time. The schedule is this:
    surgery on 12th April
activation on 1st May (nearly 3 weeks post surgery)
Further 3 audiology sessions, weekly from activation.
    Now it's getting very exciting!!!

I had my interview yesterday.  Spent an hour walking around the plant with the hiring manager - this is a noisy plant, it's where they make all the Scotch tape and masking tape (among other things).  But I could hear Bob throughout!  I put my CIs on adaptive and turned down sensitivity a bit and it worked really well.  After that we had another hour in a conference room with Bob and two other guys and that went really well too.  AND we went to lunch at a noisy restaurant and I even heard them then.
I won't find out whether I got the job till a week from Monday, but the interview already made me really happy from the standpoint of my CIs' performance.

Lucky me my date is a Friday! So I'm hoping to be back at work on Wednesday. I don't like sitting around.

I took a week off from both surgeries. It would be fantastic to have the surgery on a Friday so you have 2 days more of recovery. My first one was on Friday but my second one was on Wednesday.

I can understand what my boss talks over the phone in Spanish... he doesn't know it 😂
I can understand what my wife says to our cat in the lounge next to our bedroom. (Yes, our cat likes to chat)
I enjoy music more and more everyday during my daily commute.

Thanks for your kind words @Mary Featherston, sometimes I wonder why people say I'm boring as we don't do much on weekends lol. I'm usually very tired on weekends, and perhaps this is why maybe I haven't done proper rehab since both CI activation. I'm mentally exhausted not because of the new implants but because I need to make more effort in my day to day job to be able to communicate with my coworkers. I can go to the gym after work but I don't want to do Rehab, go figure!
I know at some point I will need to go to the public library and grab some ESL books with multimedia to practice the English language again.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still very happy with the way things are going with my CI and in that short period of time my communication has improved a lot. And music has been a blessing, I can tell you that I used to call my dad daily during my driving to work but now I only do it twice a week... I want to listen to music!

    Hi @Joseph
English is my second language. I was first implanted 8 months ago and second implanted 3 months ago.
My understanding of Spanish has improved a lot, I can talk much better on the phone and I have made progress understanding speech in music. I think I still have a long way to go.
However with English the story is very different. I'm going to give more time (1 year with both sides) to make sure whether I have to go back to school to practice my listening and speaking skills. The conclusion I''m getting from this experience is that the English language I was taught while using my hearing aids was very different to the one I'm hearing with the implants. So in other words, I think I have to relearn my listening and my speaking as if I was a new English student. I have to say that English sounds much better with the implants.
I have felt progress at my workplace but I feel they are still very small steps.
Thanks @Mary Featherston for calling, writing these kind of experiences is helpful to give it a thought on what to do to improve our hearing.

@Daniel the Stranger isn't it great to be hearing music again?  Not everything sounds great to me but I listen in the car every day to and from work, and that gives me an hour of music listening practice!  And tomorrow it should be more like two or three hours if it keeps snowing.  🙂
@Joseph - we are here for you.  You're right, one step at a time, it's all you can do.  And remember you're practicing listening to English every day in London, every  time you talk to someone.  Good luck!

    @Daniel the Stranger and @Joseph
Small steps help us reach our goals too.  Some of the free online rehab sites listed in our REHAB topic are designed for anyone learning English as a second language.  Maybe one of those sites will be a nice fit for you.  15-20 minutes each day.
I will tag you in the post about a free website I like which is designed for English language learners and works great for CI rehab.
    Wishing you both the best.
