    Hello again,
I finally had my implant surgery on the 10th of July!  All went well with a few surprises.  I was expecting to have some discomfort, but happily all I needed to take was some Extra Strength Tylenol, and only for a few days.  The surprises were the amount, loudness and continual noise in my head!  That lasted for about 2 weeks and gradually became a whisper.  The other surprise was the lack of equilibrium, that was totally unexpected!  Thankfully it too only lasted for about 2 weeks.
The audiologist activated my implant (sonnet eas) last week and I was amazed at all of the new sounds I could hear!  I was able to show my husband which smoke detector was beeping, I don't know when the last time I heard one of those!  I've been working hard at home learning to hear again and my audiologist gave me a web site to try that is wonderful. It is Angel Sound and I highly recommend it!  I will see her again next week and hopefully the pressure in my ear will be at a level that will allow her to make an ear mold for me.  In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out all of the Med-El accessories that I got and trying not to get too frustrated with the Roger Pen!
All in all, I am so excited to be hearing, even at this limited level, it is above and beyond any of my expectations and I know it will only get better!

I also had to wait quite a while to get mine @Dorothy. I was supposed to have my surgery in December 2007 and at the end I decided to postpone it until the implant I wanted was available. I ended having my surgery last 4th May. This without counting the time I did my research and taking private insurance. 1.5 years more. Smile

Hi @Dorothy - I had mine on a kind of rushed basis too, the surgeon's schedule opened up and I said, heck yeah, grab it.  It was nice, I didn't have to brood for weeks.

Hi, it's me again!  I just got word this afternoon that I am finally going to have surgery for my Cochlear Implant.  Imagine my surprise when I was told that it will be next Tuesday, July 3rd!  I was certain that it would take at least 5 weeks before I would get a date for surgery as I only contacted the doctor's office today to start the process to reschedule.  Here's hoping there are no surprises between now and then that would cause me to have to cancel again!  Any and all good thoughts and best wishes are appreciated!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear it, @Dorothy -but from my own experience I think they are, and should be, very careful about infections.  They are going into your head, after all!  I hope your husband is better soon and you can reschedule!

As for pain, everyone is different. I have had 4 CI surgeries to date and never had any discomfort other than a mild headache/earache as a result.
Every time was handled well by a couple of Tylenol or else tough it out. Alas I am weak and took the Tylenol

@Dorothy - speaking as one who's in the first week post-surgery:  the surgery will have a physical effect on you, but in my experience the acute pain didn't last long at all.  Once the hospital nurse loaded me up with painkillers I went home and from there on the pain abated progressively.  It's the Thursday after a Friday surgery and today it only hurts when I poke at it (so, you know....).  I am still aware of the presence of the implant, but I'm told by everyone who's had the experience that that will go away and it will just feel like my head again.  I have the sutures that dissolve so I don't have to go back in until activation day, which is actually two appointments:  one with the surgeon to get the final "yep, go ahead" and then two hours with the audiologist.
I'm going to be fidgety at work, but that's been true since I learned my surgery date.  I think people are getting used to it!
