Wow!  You are hearing so many things so soon!  That is terrific.
    Sorry about the fainting.
I had loud strange tinnitus at first and it settled down over time.  I hope the same happens for you.
Looking forward to reading your updates!  Enjoy!

    Thanks Evren
i think you & I are on the same page! I’m really leaning toward MedEl for the exact same reasons. The rechargeable battery of the Rondo2 is really a nice feature & to stream either one of the OTE processors would still require some sort of ALD anyhow.
I agree also if I had to choose between speech & music I’d take speech, & think medEl is going to give the best chance at acquiring enjoyable music! Guns & Roses would have been a great concert! Sounds like we both enjoy the same music also!
Best of luck to you on your activation I hope it all works out for you!
    thanks

Evren reacted to Eugene Vahlkamp in Pros and cons of using a hearing aid when rehabbing with first implant
I was activated with a Rondo 2 on 17 July for my right ear and have a hearing aid remaining in my left ear.  My speech recognition is coming along quite nicely, but my work with music is somewhat behind where I would like it to be.  I try to do a couple hours of "dedicated listening rehab" every day. I would judge my activation was a very successful as I could understand my audiologist immediately without any problems and the only noises that bothered me after activation was that I was hearing the low level ventilation noises in the room which I wasn't aware of before.
I  am wondering if any one has some guidance on whether it is best to do my rehab with or without my hearing aid in place.  I keep trading off for the time being. I'm looking forward to this October to find out the date when I can get my second implant done.  Then I will have a "balanced head".
I've been keeping good day-by-day notes on all my experiences (which I'm willing to share) and have been mentoring two others in the local area, one just was recently activated and the other one is planning for a September surgery.

Actually, I was thinking of making a wish list for Rondo 3. You read my mind! @Mary Beth
Built-in BT connection is a MUST for Rondo 3. MFI Hearing Aid's first introcuded like 5 years ago, it kinda feels like a downgrade when it comes to direct audio streaming. We can't even use over the head headphones.  @MED-EL Moderator please hear our wishes

The 90/10 mix cable works well but it does not block out ALL environmental noise.  However, the sound quality is very good.  It’s a bit inconvenient to use the mini battery packs though.  You have a thin cable from the Rondo 2 to the mini battery pack.  You have to put the mini battery pack somewhere on you.  Then you have a stiff DAI cable from the mini battery pack to the phone’s headphone jack.  This arrangement is bulky and inconvenient.
Artone neckloop works great with Rondos (OPUS2 and Sonnets) but we cannot use it in situations that cause EMI (electromagnetic interference).
Then that leaves me with CozyPhones flat stereo speakers with headband as an option for Rondos.  Great sound quality but also will not block out all environmental sounds.
We do need the Rondo to have a built in 2.4 proprietary receiver like the Sonnets.  Then it could use the AudioLink.  Or a built in BT receiver for direct connection to BT devices through an app like AudioKey.
@MED-EL Moderator (our wish list for Rondo 3!  Smile)

I’m all over the board with music, anything but country. Albums I have bought in the past month or so... and listening to extensively
    Rammstein’s new album- industrial metal
    Chemical Brothers New Geography- electronic
Johnny Winter Live - good old rock and roll
Goddo 1st album finally reissued. Great rock and roll but you probably have to be Canadian to have heard of them, sadly... great band
still buy my music via CD but transfer it to USB stick for my vehicle as well as a music server to play around the house via a Sonos system.
Despite being hearing impaired my entire life, music is still my greatest love. Still go to concerts all the time...

@Mary Beth Actually I do have tinnitus after taking off my HA's by night, but it sounds like very low buzzing of an air conditioner but post-op one is infinite ringing in my ear. It's slightly decreased now and it doesn't affect my sleeping quality, so I'm OK with that.
@Mary Featherston thank you, yes we both doing fine. better than expected! can't really wait for the activation

I am glad your recovery from surgery is going so well.  The wait between surgery and activation can seem really long!

I also found that my tinnitus, which was very loud, is not at all noticeable when wearing my processor. I can still sense it when I go to bed but it's fading, I forget it's there some nights.

post CI surgery tinnitus is quite common.  It is also common to experience strange tinnitus in the beginning when you remove your processors for the night.
My tinnitus is so much better with CIs.

I let the surgeons select the most appropriate electrode array for each cochlea.  They used cochlea size, ossification levels, etc.

@Evren - age isn't a thing to be nervous about.  I was 60 when I received my implants last year and I'm continually amazed at what I'm hearing now!  My best to you and to your mother!

Hi @Jewel nice to meet you!
I know we'll get the latest Synchrony implant with 3.0 Tesla MRI safety and flex electrodes, should ask the professionals about further details though, thanks for reminding me
I don't rely on lipreading most of the time, actually when I take of my HA's my lipreading success rate is 0% so I guess my journey will be a different one. Really feeling optimistic now, especially for my mum. I will keep you posted more and more. Thanks!
