    Hi @Mary Beth,

I just checked with our experts:
For each fitting map it can be set to a telecoil only or mix. This cannot be changed by you, but has to be set up by your audiologist.

    Kind regards,

    Mary

Hope to be able to make next month; I was in the middle of installing new thermostat/unpacking so thought it prudent to continue that at the time.

Had my second mapping session today. Basically just turned everything up, and now have four new programs to try and get used to. Possible I won’t be able to get to them all; simply depends on what kind of stimulation I need I guess. I am in the low 30s on power input which is reasonably high I guess, particularly at this point. We did a little time in the sound booth as well; I am detecting sound in the 20-25 dB range depending on frequency. We also did some word repetition; I got some, missed some. She was speaking the words with her mouth covered (though I was looking at the floor of the booth anyway, concentrating) and started out at a “normal” volume and then lowered the volume a couple times as she was reading. The lowest level I think I only got one out of the handful she said. Overall though my audiologist was very pleased with this.
Listened in to a phone call streaming when I got home for 35 minutes and it was rough; my wife was on the same call via her phone and she said the audio was not great. I got maybe 1/3 of the words. Wasn’t thrilled with that. Right after though I streamed some YouTube and it was fine, could get probably 75% (no captioning). More than enough to know what MKBHD was speaking about.
Next follow-up in a month but the direction in the meantime is to keep doing what I’m doing (movies, YouTube, audiobooks, conversing one on one, spending the evenings CI only).
We spoke briefly at the end of the appointment about planning for my left ear; she is going to speak to my surgeon about starting that process off for later this year.

So it's interesting... I was looking at the old temperature records for the DC region a few weeks back and I noticed that they previous longest high temperature streaks (tied, same duration) were in 1980, the year I was born, and 1988, year my wife was born. We had a new record here in 2020 and we're going to have our son later this year and well... Sorry folks, it's our fault

Fortunately they're on the FCC's website Though of course they may be out of date.
I wanted to add, after reviewing Med-El's website I did see a suggestion to try the "BT Mono" app on Android, and while I do get a warning starting it the first time that it was designed to work with earlier versions of Android, it does work just fine to activate streaming. I just have to pick up a Play Store gift card to get the "pro" version for widget functionality, since I had such a snafu with Google and my credit card a little over a year ago and I refuse to now give them another one.

That is encouraging.  I hope Med-El addresses the static/scratching noises with an update to the AudioLink so that we do not need to use a specially created program in order to hear well with the AudioLink.  In the meantime, I hope Med-El shares info on these special program setting changes with our clinical audiologists. Fingers crossed.

Sorry the problem came back for your son.

So my son does not complain about a loss of connection to either of his processors with the AudioLink. He reports that he hears whatever he's streaming but with scratching noises still. We went to see our audiologist in St Louis, MO and she created a separate program to use only with the AudioLink (decreased all levels of sensitivity and we turned down sensitivity on the AudioLink as well) It worked!! No scratching noises. My son used it for 10 hours straight on the drive home (to Canada). He was beyond excited. He did have the AudioLink clipped to his seatbelt strap for the drive. I didn't think to ask him about any loss of signal bc he was beyond happy it was working (w/o scratching noises).....2 days later when we were already home, the scratching noises came back. We've been in touch with our audi in Stl and she has several ideas on how to fix the issue, but unfortunately we can not get back to her bc we will have to self isolate for another 14 days again since the Canadian borders are so strict with quarantine still. My audi contacted the regional manager for Medel Canada and we were told to book an appointment with our audi in Canada, but they aren't taking appointments at this time due to covid-19. It sucks. We were so close. We are waiting to see if they will lift border restrictions soon, but good news is the regional managers are working closely with the engineers in Austria to troubleshoot this issue. I just wanted everyone to know that we aren't giving up with the AudioLink and anyone not enjoying it to work closely with your audiologist bc there is a lot they can do for you to use it properly. It was designed by Medel so it does work. Everyone is different. So are our programs. The same goes for the AudioLink. As for the loss of connection, I would communicate this information with your audi. There are solutions. The engineers need to know users are having issues.
Good luck and I appreciate the feedback as I will be asking my son about any issues with connection.

Yup.  Many people are reporting the same limitation with AudioLink.  It definitely needs to be close to the processor.  And in some situations, clipped on a shirt under our chin still loses connection to one of two bilateral processors.  Single sided users are clipping it on the side of their CI. That is not helpful for bilateral CI users.
The AudioLink’s heavy dependence on line of sight is similar to Roger.  Both lose signals very quickly when line of sight is lost, even indoors with bouncing signals.
The Artone BT neckloop does not have that problem.  I can listen to an audiobook on my phone while the phone is in our living room and I move between rooms, go upstairs, go downstairs and even go out onto our patio.  So much better signal integrity.  I will be curious to read your review after you try it.  It will be a great match for being bimodal.
This is why I am very curious about Rondo 3 and its telecoil adapter since it does not have a built in telecoil.  I stream audio often and my favorite device is the Artone.  Of course, I am hopeful Med-El will release updates to the AudioLink so it works better.  And I REALLY hope Med-El releases a direct to processor streaming solution before too long.

So I took the AudioLink with me on my morning walk today and it was completely useless unfortunately. I first tried with it in my pocket connecting with my phone to stream a free audiobook (Dracula, since I'm familiar). It couldn't maintain a connection to the CI. I then tried with it clipped to the neckline of my shirt and my phone in the pocket where the AudioLink had been. Still couldn't maintain a connection. The only way I could get it to work was to hold them both in the same hand up at the level of my ear, which isn't particularly practical when one is out exercising.
It's clear to me based on the power output I found and posted in a different thread that the design is relying heavily upon multipath effects, which works great indoors. I can stream just fine in my home office with the AudioLink in its dock plugged into my desktop, or lying on our bed with the AudioLink on my nightstand streaming from my phone. But outdoors there's nothing to bounce signal off of, so you only have the very weak line of sight path which isn't enough.
I do have an Artone 3 Max, it's in it's box still as I was waiting to get the telecoil in my hearing aid turned on at my next follow-up, but I think that I will just get it charged up and see how it does tomorrow morning by comparison.

I didn't see the information for any of the Rondos in the database, actually. The only other processor in there was the Samba 2 which is not a CI processor as I learned by clicking the link.
It turns out that I think I actually did get my Sonnet 2 into flight mode but for some reason the lights aren't blinking the way it shows in the PDF manual online (have I mentioned I hate paper manuals?). After following the steps I tried getting the AudioLink to talk to the processor and it wouldn't; rebooting made them talk again. So clearly, it was in flight mode.
I'll write more in a different spot about my morning experience with the AudioLink.

@Mary Beth You might find this bit interesting...
By nature of my job I had to submit all the FCC information to my security folks so I have all those links handy. Here they are for a fair amount of the current Med-El tech:
    Fine Tuner: https://fccid.io/VNP-FT
    Fine Tuner Echo: https://fccid.io/VNP-FTE
    Sonnet: https://fccid.io/VNP-ME1300
    Sonnet 2: https://fccid.io/VNP-ME1500
    AudioLink: https://fccid.io/VNP-AL
According to the information in the links above, the AudioLink puts out 1 milliWatt (mW) and the Sonnet 2 puts out 4 mW.
Here's your headphones, by way of comparison...
    QuietComfort 35: https://fccid.io/A94419811
They put out almost 20x as much power as the AudioLink does (19 mW). And that's how I know it's not a problem 😁

The manual for the AudioLink doesn't have that limitation, it states:
    https://fccid.io/VNP-AL/User-Manual/User-manual-4296618.pdf
Having done aviation electromagnetic effects requirements development and testing for six years, I personally wouldn't be at all concerned about using one of these (or the Roger, for that matter), on a plane. The power output is far too low to have any deleterious affects on avionics in the aircraft.
