Matt got a reaction from Mary Beth in Helmets and Implants... What is the solution?
    Hi Cindy (and Mary Beth),
I don't wear my processor when riding as my helmets are very tight fitting. I've thought about using a Dremel to take away some of the foam around where the processor would sit to deuce the pressure.
I am very interested in what you decide to do Cindy.
And I've just landed back in Austria for this years Europe trip!!

    Hi Natalie,
I'm another Vancouver fan - have been a few times and love it and the people.
Good to see a fellow nurse on the forum as well.

Hi @Matt I have read that SCIC is the best centre for cochlear implants in Australia. Unfortunately I'm in Adelaide but I'm also glad that I found a very good doctor and a dedicated Audi who worked with me for both implants.

    Hey Mary Beth,
I was back in Europe this year and went to Bulgaria and Romania - both were great. I also dropped by the factory again but due to some mixed communication I missed meeting some of the team that built my implant.
I'm heading back next year and plan to visit Sardinia and Corsica - and visit several bike events.
    Hope you are well?

    Hi,

I'm Jess and live in Perth Western Australia. I have a daughter who was implanted at the age of 11months with bilateral implants. We have used the OPUS 2, Rondo and now the sonnets which are our processor of choice. My daughter is now 7 and has very fluent clear speech. We still have all the usual issues in day to day life, missing processors, broken parts but in general extremely grateful and blessed to have such a wonderful product.

    Thanks

    Jess

I'm veterinary doctor and finally can use the electronic stethoscope with the red cap cable (90% audio and 10% Mic). The stethoscope is a Japanese one and very old but with an incredible sound quality (so sensitive that it also picks up noises of friction with the skin and even voices of the environment).

I've flown a lot since I was implanted both domestic and international with many different airlines. I've been through all the scanners and security checks and have never had a problem.

    Hello @simona and welcome!
Congratulatoins on being approved for a CI.  That is exciting!

I had otosclerosis too.  My hearing loss progressed starting at age 13.  By age 27 my right ear had absolutely no hearing and could not be aided.  My left ear continued to progress.  By age 50, I was really struggling to hear.  My world was small.  I had to speechread a lot!  I was implanted at age 51. First in my right ear which had not processed any sound at all for 24 years.  At activation I only heard static and beeps but things really improved quickly.  I did lots of aural rehab everyday.  Check out our topic on new reha for lots of great suggestions.  Things got better every day.  Eight months after the right surgery, my left side was implanted.

My CIs have changed my life,  I hear better now than I have in many decades.  It is so wonderful.

I can use any phone, listen to podcasts, understand both music and talk radio, understand the TV, converse with my family from different rooms, play the piano again........so many many wonderful things.

Everyone’s journey is unique so there is no way to tell you how long it will be before you can understand speech with your implant.  Aural rehab will help.  Just trust that whatever you hear at activation is just your starting point.  There is no way to know how far you will go with your CIs, until you train and experience it yourself.

This is a friendly group.  Ask as many questions as you wish.

Which CI center are you using?  Have you selected a processor yet?

Matt got a reaction from Mary Beth in how do you function in meetings?
Depends on lots of factors for me, including size and shape of the room, distance from speakers to me. But generally I do OK.

    Hi,
I've been slack posting here but I've checked in occasionally to keep an eye on you.
Yesterday, after 6.5 years of faithful service from my OPUS 2 I finally had my upgrade to the Sonnet. We swapped over the programs and did a little fine tuning so things are reasonably normal.
I'm going back in a month for a check up and will ask more about the features I might not know about.

I'm at home for a while - will be heading to Europe later this year and will plan a visit to HQ in Austria if I can.
Not sure if I posted my pic from Taiwan? I went swimming with the processor and had to visit the importer there for a check up.

    Hi Hicksy,
glad to hear that music is getting better for you. I went to a big outdoor world music festival a couple of months after activation and it was total sensory overload but I loved every minute of it.
    Keep us updated.
