  1. Hi Mary Beth. I just wanted to let you know that I was able to get in touch with the surgeon that did my implants and she wants to talk to me about my problems. She mentioned something about possibly getting someone to do some testing of my implants to see if they can locate any problems. I don't have an appointment as yet, but hope to get one soon. I'll keep you posted as to what I find out. Thank you so much for caring. Take care. Kathleen
  2. Thank you, Mary Beth! And I will keep you posted. I sent an email to my surgeon yesterday requesting an appointment. If a CT Scan helps end this horrible noise I will forever be in your debt. Thank you so much for caring. 💗
  3. Hi Mary Beth, Thank you so much for replying to my imput so fast. I really appreciate that. My activation processors were both OPUS 2. I got a Rondo, but I wasn't happy with that one. I did get an upgrade on my right side, which was my first implant, and that one was a Sonnet 1, I believe. I know this sounds stupid, but I'm not sure the coils are. I haven't been back to my doctor or audiologist for quite some time now. I know I need to get back with them to try to correct this problem. I am going to try to make an appointment with my surgeon and ask about getting a CT scan, like you suggested. Hopefully that will help discover what is causing this problem that I am having. I will let you know as soon as I find out if there is something to be done to correct it. Thank you so much for your suggestion. I had not even thought of that.
  4. My name is Kathleen Dufresne. I received my implants in 2013 in the right ear, and in 2015 in the left ear. For the first few years after receiving them my hearing was awesome. I loved them. But about two years ago I started experiencing a load roaring sound in my head that was soft when I first got up or when I was in a quiet place, but this roar would increase to an unbearable level when things like the TV, running water, and other things were turned on. Along with that , I have had a raspy sound to my voices and others voices that is very nerve racking. It sounds like everyone is talking into a fan that is running. Both the roar and the raspy are constant. I have been to my audiologist and met with MedEl representives several times and have had my devices adjusted, but nothing seems to help. If anyone of you have ever experienced either of these things, please let me know if you have found out what causes this and how it can be remedied. I sometimes feel like taking my ads off permanently it is so depressing to have this stuff going on. Please help me if you can. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
  5. Thank you, Mary Beth. I recently visited the surgeon who preformed my surgery and told her about what I had read on the post I mentioned, and she is going to suggest to my audiologist to turn off some of the electrodes. I am hoping and praying that if they do it will help eliminate the raspy sounds. Have a great day.
  6. My name is Kathleen and I received my first implant in 2014 and my second implant in 2015. After having the implants my hearing was awesome. I love every moment. But in the past few months or so I have been experiencing a raspy sound to voices of those who talk to me, including my own voice. When I first joined HearPeers I read input from someone who also had the implants who said that he had some problems with quality of hearing and had asked his audiologist if it were possible to cut off some of the electrodes that were on the coil. He stated that when the audiologist had cut off some of the electrodes his quality of hearing improved. I don't remember the name of the person who had this done, but would love to hear from anyone else who has had electrodes turned off and ask if they had them turned off because of raspy sounds to voices. I would appreciate any input I can get. I'm getting a little desparate now. The raspy if driving me crazy. Thank you for any help.
  7. Thank you, Adam. Mary Beth emailed me yesterday and told me that they have a CI programming study at Vanderbilt U that has helps some people with programs they are having with their CI. I am going to ask my audiologist about it. If I decide to look into it more, I will let you know what the results are.
  8. Thank you, Beth! I will have to look into that.
  9. Hi Adam. I'm sorry to say that there has been no resolution for the raspy voices. When I last saw my audiologist there was a representative from MedEl there as well. I wish I could find some solution to it. It is so irritating. I now also have a very loud roar in my head as well that sometimes last all day. Sorry I could not give any help to someone who may be having the same trouble. If I do come upon a solution, I will most definitely share any information that I have with you.
  10. I will try my best. Thank you again.
  11. Thank you, Adam. I am suppose to be seeing my audiologist in a few months. I'm going to try to get ahold of her a little sooner though. I will definitely let you guys at HearPeers know what is done to get rid of the raspiness, if we are able to. If there is anyway I could help someone else experiencing the same thing I would be pleased to do so.
  12. Will do, Mary Beth. Thank you again.
  13. OK. I appreciate your help very much, Mary Beth. I'll have to try what you suggested. Thank you very much.
  14. I have the OPUS 2 that I use on the left side and I just got that new one they have out, the Sonet I believe is what it is called, that I wear on the right side. I have tried turning one off at a time, and the raspy sound is the same no matter which one I have turned on. When I have both on it is just "surround sound" raspy sort of speak.
  15. Hi Mary Beth, Thank you so much for replying. Yes, the raspiness is with both male and female voices and with other sounds like music.
