kwooddell
My son's implant was activated on November 20th. We left that day with four programs on his fine tuner to work through. Since that time, he's received one additional program. How often will he be "mapped?" Just wondering what is typical.
mbensheimer
Hi Kristi, A lot of the time it depends on the audiologist schedule, as well as how fast your son progresses. Usually the maps are very similiar at first and only differ in volume. As your son gets older and makes more progress he will need less mappings. My son is fourteen and he gets mapped annually, unless theres a problem. Ask your audiologist what they suggest. Keep us updated with his progress. Hilla915
Hi Kristi! The schedule for re-mapping appointments certainly varies significantly, depending on the clinic and audiologist you see as well as factors such as distance from the center and work/school schedule. What does tend to stay consistent is that mappings occur much more frequently in the beginning. It is even possible that someone might be seen every week to two weeks for the first month or so, until levels start to plateau. Eventually most clinicians choose to work toward only seeing a patient back for re-mapping every 6 months to one year, but even that can vary, again based on the above factors. Of course, interim visits should always be scheduled as needed if a problem arises.
kwooddell
I guess I need to ask his audiologist more questions. He was activated a month and half ago and we worked through four programs within that first week. Since that time, he's recieved one additional program that only raised the volume. We see his audiologist once a week for speech therapy so it would not be a problem to schedule a mapping appointment as well. Thanks for the responses.
