HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted April 14, 2016 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 14, 2016 Reading today some articles and found this one in the latest edition of O&N: It is possible to predict the extent of the hearing preservation after the implantation: http://journals.lww.com/otology-neurotology/Abstract/2016/04000/Intraoperative_Real_time_Cochlear_Response.6.aspx Quote Link to comment https://forum.hearpeers.com/topic/1168-interesting-prediction-of-the-hearing-preservation/ Share on other sites
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted April 14, 2016 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 14, 2016 I read about surgeons using this kind of monitoring to improve their surgical skills for preserving residual hearing. This monitoring does not help the present patient, in my understanding, but helps the surgeon learn. HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted April 15, 2016 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 15, 2016 Well, this team actually use a modification to help preserve as much as they can during the surgery. HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted April 15, 2016 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 15, 2016 I think the fact that they are making a real effort to preserve is a great step forward. I think as we have talked about in the past, a lot with have to do with the individual as far as anatomy, skill of surgeon and a little luck. With Medels electrode arrays, I would say the recipient has a far better likelihood of preserving hearing. HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted April 16, 2016 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 16, 2016 Of course Adam, but we should never be contented with what we have made - further improvements just improve the situation. Parallel to technological advancements we should improve the operative techniques also - this is part of these efforts.
