My name is Tatyana and my mother is scheduled to get Me-Del cochlear implant in a few weeks.   I was hoping to speak with some folks who have recently had the procedure for advice and feedback.  Mom is 59, has 12% hearing and is doing one ear to see how it goes.  She is very nervous and so am I :(

Hi, I had my CI Med-El 2 weeks ago.  I go for my post op visit 2/7 and processor will be turned on 2/28/17.  I'm very excited.

Surgery went well, about 2 hours.  No complications and I have RA also.  Nausea and dizziness was very little.  I just have a very

full feeling on the right side and swelling.  Intermittent pain but bearable.

Hi Tatyana, welcome to forum, I was implanted September 2016, I'm in rehabilitation process. It is a journey and each one is different. Here you will find a lot of experiences.

I have no problem in surgery. In 6 weeks I had my connection and every day. every weeks you go ahead altough this is a no fast way. Someone improve in more or less time than others, but everyone advance.

If you want, Here I left a post where Megan and me, left comments about our journey. We was implanted an connected at same time in different parts of the world.

If you have any specific question left here, you will have answer of any member of this community.

Hi Tatyana, Tell your mom things will be fine. I'm 64 and had my implant in January and activation in February.  I received the Med-el Sonnet and I am very pleased so far. My right ear was at 97% loss. I had a unilateral because my left ear has only 37% loss. 2 hour surger, 1 day in bed, was taking ibuprofen by second day. litle or no dizziness and no nausea. Taste buds are a little off and sinus drainage still going on but no major problems.
