Patrick B
Hello everyone, I am Patrick B from Missouri in the United States. I have a unilateral implant. The implantation was in January 2017 with activation in February. I have had three adjustment sessions with my audiologist. I have the med-el sonnet with the rechargable batteries and the quattro 4.0 bluetooth accessories. My audiologist says that I have quite a bit of brain adjusting to do now that I have regained sound on my right side. My hearing loss has been gradual due to loud noises while serving in the US Navy. All of the jet noise, engineroom noises and loud booms have finally caught up to me. Hearing protection was not a big thing when I was in the service. Anyway, so far I am impressed with my CI. I'm hearing birds singing again and that in itself is a miracle. I have not heard them in 5 years. I have a 37% hearing loss in my left ear, especially at high frequency ranges. It is great to find a group of people going through similar experiences. I hope to learn a lot. scott, Cara Mia and Julesrdh
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted April 12, 2017 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 12, 2017 Hi Patrick and welcome. My right side had not processed any sound for 24 years before being implanted at age 51 and there was a lot of brain adjustment needed. Smile. Check out our topic on aural rehab for lots of great tips.
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted April 12, 2017 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 12, 2017 Hi Patrick welcome to hearpeers. I am bilateral with sonata implants. I started with opus 2 processors, have now upgraded to the Sonnets. I'm glad to hear things are going well for you. It does take a little time for your brain to start figuring things out. Looking forward to getting to know you. Thank you for your service of our country. Adam
David
Hello Patrick, and welcome, After 47 years of continued hearing loss, my left and right side measurements at the time were 96% and 88%, respectively. I had a left side Synchrony implant procedure in July, 2015. have used both Sonnet and Rondo processors, and prefer Sonnet. I had a right side implant procedure last week due to accelerated right side hearing loss (96%) since the first procedure, so now I'm bilateral, and looking forward to activation on April 26th. It has indeed been an incredible journey, requiring time, patience and personal effort to derive the maximum performance from the Sonnet processor to arrive at the optimum brain adjustment level mentioned by your audiologist. I am also a vet, and must admit it has been one of those incredible, life-changing, worthwhile experiences. With regard to Med-El, I have found their cutting-edge technology, along with the quality of their personnel and service, to be exemplary. I live in the St. Louis area, and if you would like to meet others that have, or are considering, a Med-El implant, there are periodic meetings in the area hosted by their local Senior Consumer Outreach Manger. I have found the meetings be informative and worthwhile, and the next one is between 6:30 - 8:30pm on May 4th. Let me know If you are interested, and I'll post the details.
