Hi girls /and boys, too, if you are in the topic/. How do you feel about wearing earrings along with the BTW processors. I tried / perhaps, not very hard/ but felt as I am a Christmas tree with too much ornaments around St. Patrick's day. Or if I put four rings on the same hand. Please, help how to overcome this stupid feelings! ? Dear @Angie, I know you have something to tell me. I like a lot your earrings that i saw on your pictures.

@Cara Mia, hey!  You mentioned about wearing earrings.  I am wondering if you were referring to another Angie?    You mentioned you had seen pictures of me wearing a lot of earrings.  I just returned to HearPeers so I haven't posted any pictures as of yet.

It is not about the kind of earrings. It is about that at some reason I feel weird to wear earrings and processors. I did it just fine with my hearing aid before surgery. But with implants I feel that if I put earrings on my ears along with processors and eyeglasses I will look like a cow with a horse saddle ?. I know it sounds stupid. But I need some inspiration to overcome it.

@Cara Mia,  little by little you can overcome.  Before long, you will be wearing all kinds of earrings with your processors.  I suggest you start off with a small pair of earrings and over time we move to larger ones.  We can also do it starting one hour without taking them off and over time move to larger intervals of time.  Are your ears pierced or do you wear clip ons?

Thank you girls for your inspirations! Of course I would like to hear some magic word that could make my uneasiness to disappear.

But after reading your advises I got that I have to stick with a gradual desensibilization again. I want to be a princess, at least sometimes at something, and get things being comfortable just because of the rights of my birth

Ok, will have my breakfast and then will jump with both my feet ears in celebrating mode :D

Angela, I have my ears pierced.

How are you progressing with the earrings, Cara Mia?  I was apprehensive to try them because when I had my hearing aid, if they were long dangling ones, all I heard was the sound of them.  With the Rondo I have no problem at all.

@Sandy  I have always loved my Rondos but used them only in special situations (like waterwear or if I was going to be sweating a lot) until recently.  For the past two weeks I have used my Rondos all day long everyday.  It is refreshing not to have anything on my ears even though I didn't mind wearing BTE processors at all.  That surprised me.

The ease of just turning them on with the switch and popping them on my head has been nice too.

Changing batteries every three days is wonderful.

It has been nice to get used to a one piece processor as my daily wear processor.  I thought I would miss the dual mic feature of the Sonnet in noise, but so far I don't miss it at all.  I am surprised by that too.

Mary Beth, I'm glad you are enjoying wearing the Rondo.  I chose it specifically because I always had problems with my hearing aid and wearing glasses.  Sometimes I have to touch it to make sure it's still there.  I'm surprised too how much I can hear and pinpoint the direction.  I also seem to find that I hear better than some of my hearing friends, especially in noisy situations like restaurants.  It will be my five year anniversary next March and I am still amazed at how much I can now hear.

I am so glad that you are doing so well with your Rondo.  5 years pass by quickly.  How do things work in Canada for upgrades to new processors?  Will you be able to switch to the Rondo2 when it becomes available in Canada?  Things in the US vary depending on individual health insurance policies.  I am only 2.5 years in so far so I do not know how things will work with my insurance after 5 years yet.

Sandy, I still feel weird wearing earrings. Especially, on my EAs side. But you got me a good idea to try studs type earrings. Perhaps, non-dangling earrings will be  counted as not an additional burden to my ears.

Mary Beth, you are surprised me - you, such an advocate of Sonnet and two mics are now switched for Rondos! Want to paraphrase a saying that women are so flickering when it comes to a hair color. It should be read as we are so flickering when it comes to a type of Ci processors  :)

Now after reading you "confession" I think how to find a way to get Rondo. Perhaps, I will like it more than Sonnet.

Despite how comfortable Sonnets sit on my ears, the idea to have nothing behind my ears is still very appealing.

@Cara Mia  I performed great with my Sonnets.  I was so used to having a BTE HA, that the BTE Sonnet was easy to adapt to.

I wanted to return to ASM 1 and see how things sounded compared to ASM 2 in my Sonnets.  That is why I am testing out my Rondos only right now.  I am going to wear them exclusively for two months and then switch back to my Sonnets and compare.

I thought I may be anxious with the Rondos getting knocked off but they stay in place just fine.  Sound awesome.  Are easier to use than the Sonnets because they are one piece and the batteries last 3 days for me.  I honestly wasn't bothered by the BTE processors so I am surprised at how much I am enjoying having nothing on my ears.

If you are interested in the Rondos, you may want to wait until the new Rondo 2 is available in the US.

I think the only way I can get the Rondo 2 without paying for it myself is if my current processor cannot be repaired.  Then part would be paid by our Assisted Devices Program (ADP) and the remainder by me.  I will need to talk with my audiologist about it.  So far the only benefit I see with the Rondo 2 is not having to buy batteries or using the dry machine.  I just had my Rondo replaced.  Every time I replaced the batteries it would start beeping as if the batteries had died.  And then I would be out somewhere and all of a sudden there would be no sound.  My warranty is up in March so it will be in net resting to see how much it will cost to insure it.  I checked with my insurance company about having it attached to my house insurance policy but she indicated that it would need to be separate and there were too many instances where there would be no payout if something happened.  Once I get the information, I will let you know.

That is definitely a complicated part of our journeys....once our processors are out of warranty.  Sometimes Med El has an option to trade in a processor in order to get a discount on self-pay price of a new processor.  However, keeping one processor as a back-up offers quite a safety net for those times when our processors need to go in for repair.

Lots to consider for sure.

This is off topic, but a few were talking about a Facebook group similar to this forum, do you mind telling me what it is called so I can join?  Thanks!

Sarah D,  the group on Facebook is called, Med el cochlear implant discussion group. It is full of wonderful people and man with great knowledge and questions

Sandy,  I was told it costs $750 per year after the warranty expires to cover it as an extended warranty. From my CI centre. Plus Rondo2 is not available yet on Canada or anywhere that I've heard of yet. Someone mentned it is in the trial phase. Could be a few years before it's available.
