Angelina salas
Hi y'all I'm Angie from Oregon. CI implantation in 2001,2003,2015 in my right ear. Lots of issues with CI!!!! I currently wear a resound H/aid in left ear which is profoundly deaf. I rely heavily on lipreading and basic signs. I had to take a break from wearing CI but getting back onto it and will start over with more audio training with CI alone, without my hearing aid at home. It is not natural sounds, very robotic and rocks my brain at first and causes headaches/migraines. Very frustrating! I had my 3rd reimplantation October 2015 with new MedEl and now it's September 2017. 2 years and still sounds robotic and unnatural. So I've resigned to accept that I will not get the full benefit like others. Anyone struggling with same issues? Please share! Thanks to this forum it helps that I'm not alone! -angie
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 16, 2017 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 16, 2017 Hi Angie, I am so sorry to read this. Does your CI center offer aural rehab or know of aural rehab therapists in your area who may be able to help you a bit? Mary Beth
HearPeers Heroes Cara Mia Posted September 16, 2017 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 16, 2017 Hi Angelina, I am sorry that you had such a painful experience with your implant. Please, don't give up! Perhaps, you need more time to get better hearing with Ci because of multiple surgery trauma and the irregular shape of your cochlea. Please, invest your time in audio rehab. You can do it yourself and many different forms. And considering your story, you need to seek a help from the professional audio rehab specialist. I understand that it is not so easy to find such pro and it is matter of coverage, but any steps taken will do good for you. I believe you have a lot of potentials with your implant that just need to be set in motion. Did you discussed your headache issues due to overstimulation with your audi to see what can be done to resolve this issues without cutting you out from the sound. There are the ways our audiologist can help us with discomfort hearing. I wish you the best. Fight for yourself!
