HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted July 11 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 11 Here is one option for securing the Sonnet2/Sonnet https://smartear.eu/en/products/mic-lock-smartear-silicon-holder-352 @Ralph34
Ralph34
Thanks. I wondered about that. It looks awkward to put on. They have a sale on rechargeable batteries this month so I’ll add this to my list.
Ralph34
I wonder why they are “available in very large quantities”. How many does one need?
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted July 11 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 11 @Ralph34 This securing design is not from Med-El . Med-El uses a huggy design which is an entire ring that adds bulk all around the ear and behind the processor. This design only extends from the hook to the battery cover. Ralph34
The Med-El site here shows the Huggie which looks a little different. No description other than “ goes around the ear” . It doesn’t even say what model of processor it is for nor are there any pictures re. how to use it.??? Thanks again.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted July 11 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 11 @Ralph34 The Med-El huggy is not comfortable for me. That’s why I posted a link to a third party option which is much less bulky. We can also use hearing aid clips which go around the battery cover and clip on shirts. Lots of various vendors for hearing aid clips online.
Ralph34
The Poland site is very interesting . Can you list some other vendor sites.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted July 11 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 11 @Ralph34 Maybe check with your audiologist to see if they have these types of securing options available. Other brand CIs use similar securing options although in the US we can not purchase anything from the other companies.
Lauren
@Ralph34 @Mary Beth When I’m using my Sonnet 2s and working out I like taking it partially off the ear. The Active Wear Med-El has (unsure if available in CA but worth asking or checking out) gives two wearing options. Option 1: the processor/microphone is worn on the ear as normal but the battery portion is extended down to be clipped on shirt. This is the one I use since it doesn’t impact sound quality and other than sweat I don’t have much to worry about while working out. The cable gives a little peace of mind since it’s physically attached to me . Looks like this: Option 2: Coil cables come in three sizes (28cm, 9cm, 6.5cm) the longest of which allows the whole processor to be worn on the shirt. Note, this could negatively impact microphone quality as the processor is not on/near your head. I have not personally tried it, though if I was doing something around water I might prefer this over Sonnet 2 waterwear (which I also have not tried). Might also allow a head covering and/or sunglasses to be worn more comfortably since there’d only be the magnet coil to contend with. The activewear I got, I was able to get directly from Med-El. Enegra
The shop from Poland, SmartEar is reliable and they ship globally. I have used it before without any issues. "available in very large quantities" just means the status of their stock, not that one would get send a boxful of the loops. I do agree that the translation is maybe a bit awkward. It's a literal translation of what the Polish website says, but what they mean is the inventory level. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice regarding clipping the Sonnet, as for me the issue is with retaining the magnets in sports and just using a stronger one fixed it for me. Very different scenario than on a boat.
Ralph34
Thank you @Lauren and @Enegra. These ideas: loops and longer wire with clip are options that I had considered. Certainly just leaving it on the shore safe and dry is not feasible. I need to talk to people. Thanks Again @Ralph34
