Sahib
I wish we had the choice to choose to turn on or off the AI in the AudioKey 2 app at our discretion. If we have the choice to tune the volume and sensitivity in the app, why can’t we have the same choice with AI? I know it’s something only an audiologist can do and it’s off forever. Like wouldn’t it be cool to decide when I want to hear Omni (fully without any AI) and then if I, in the moment, choose to go to Costco, then I can prepare for that by turning on AI. I think this would be a cool opportunity. Plus, as someone who received the new SONNET 2 processors 3 weeks ago. I hate the AI and I miss my old life, I want my hearing back (so to speak). Listening to music (which I do every single second hahaha) is not the same with my music going up and down. Like when I say ummmmm or the singer holds a note or there is loud drums cause I listen to pop rock. The AI cannot tell the difference because it just sees it as a loud volume or background noise and therefore it reduces my own voice or alters the sound of music. It’s both an emotional and hearing rollercoaster. Even tho I’ve adapted and gotten used to it, I am not satisfied and can’t wait to see my audiologist to get these additional features taken off! I feel like I have no control over my life. I have to book a whole visit and take time off to see my audiologist. For something so simple, you would think there would be more available solutions. @MED-EL Moderator maybe you could talk to the product experts about developing something like this? I believe that originally there was no way to adjust sensitivity/volume on the AudioKey 2 app, but then after @Mary Beth brought it up in discussions, that it was made available. Maybe that’s wrong and I made that up in my mind. I feel like I saw something like that. Michi
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted October 27 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted October 27 @Sahib User controlled settings for these front end pre processing features and mix ratio are desired by MANY of us. I also enjoy omni mic setting always- especially for music. It is my daily program. Fortunately we can have our audiologists set various programs on the Sonnet2 at the same time so we can create versions in different slots and use the app to move into them as desired. For me…. 1) omni with all front end features turned off 2) always adaptive mic setting with adaptive intelligence off, wind block off, ambient noise reduction off and transient noise reduction off (to use in very noisy situations if desired) 3) omni with all front end features turned off and sensitivity set at 0%, and volume set at 70-100% (to use with AudioStream to get as close to 100/0 mix ratio as possible) Sakin, Sahib and Michi
Members Tim
It feels like blocking users from controls is a design decision left over from the early days of CIs where implantees might have been very young or older recipients. In either case, they might have chosen to keep the options very strictly limited. There are now so many working professionals, tech savvy users, and people with vast amounts of information/experience, that want to be able to take an active role in their hearing. Seems like having a car where all the doors have child safe locks permanently turned on. I trust my family to know when to safely open the door. I hope the new processors and software (Audiokey 3?) will give users real control. Michi, Sakin and Sahib
Michi
I did not think about that evolution as to why they might still have those options strictly limited. @MED-EL ModeratorHopefully, AudioKey 3 can have these new options. John Schulz
You can actually kinda achieve this with different programs but I definitely agree that we should have more freedom beyond four preset programs. Sahib and Michi

Well it's not just the app that needs to support it. The Bluetooth interface on the CI needs to also support the "commands" to change the values in the internal config that the CI boots from. AFAIK, the Bluetooth interface can not be updated (for reasons I hope to one day understand) so this likely will need to wait until the next processor comes out. They should have a way to update the bluetooth interface after it leaves the factory in the next generation, right? RIGHT? 👀
MED-EL Moderator
@Sahib, thank you for tagging us and everyone for sharing their feedback. We have passed along your feedback to our product experts here at Headquarters. With AudioKey 2, @Mary Beth's suggestion is correct; your audiologist can set up another program with the AI closed so you can switch between programs as desired. Kind regards, Alicia
