Lauren
Got an email the other day that Med-El will be visiting locally mid August at a public library. Since I’ve not done this before I secured a time slot. Has anyone done something similar? Since it will not be at an audiologist office/CI clinic it will most likely be informational. Additionally sounds like meetings will be very short/brief given the time frames available. I have nothing in particular to discuss so am treating it like a short meet and greet, unless something occurs to me between now and then. One Med-El employee on the email chain I have met before so will be nice to see again.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted July 31 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 31 @Lauren Med-El US used to do in person gatherings regionally before the pandemic. In the NE they were open and no appt was needed.
Lauren
@Mary Beth Interesting. Maybe this will start that back up. Just speculating. Any time Med-El is in town I try to meet with them. Thankfully the library is about five minutes away from my work so it’ll be easier than meeting at my audiologist office. Email did ask for responses to reserve a spot. Times given were 50 minutes in duration and 2-3 spots per meeting time. Mary Beth
Lauren
My short visit ended up being just shy of 1.5 hours lol. Lots of good info on upcoming announcements to look out for and my DAI audio not being true 100/0 got discussed as well as heads up about big announcements that are going to be coming soon. . Even had time to give local sightseeing tips, free and otherwise that they’d like if they ever schedule time for fun things.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted August 16 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 16 Glad you enjoyed your pop up. The red DAI is 90/10.
Lauren
@Mary Beth sorry for the confusion. The DAI I meant to refer to was the option for the AudioStream adapter. My audiologist set it to streaming only for one of my programs and I had a surprise experience in a loud environment where the mics weren’t truly 100/0. Members Tim
Med-El is doing a "Med-El Mingle" in Portland on October 3rd. Unfortunately I'll be out of town that week at a conference. They had a couple of people at a CI clinic's picnic at the zoo last weekend. ---- Surprising that the the Advanced Program option for Rondo 3 Audiostream doesn't get to 100/0. Did the reps have any explanation for this?
Lauren
@Tim nice! Sarah mentioned they were going to start doing monthly things again, even up here. And yes, has to do with low pitches that I was hearing. I need additional suppression added in to make it closer to 100/0. They watched the video I took of my audiologist making the programming change then they went into their test environment of Maestro and said I needed this setting instead to try to reduce low pitches as much as possible. It isn’t recommended except in cases like this. Screenshots were sent to my audiologist showing what needed to be done, and we’ll address it at my next appointment. John F
I have residual from my AudioStreams as well on the Rondos which keeps making me second guess residual hearing. Very annoying. Don’t think MedEl is doing Is doing anything near Boston but would be interesting, maybe.
Lauren
@John F my experience was in a very loud restaurant. I streamed music and was loving it then the music ended and I was hearing a murmur of the crowd. I briefly thought I had residual hearing lol. I tested that by taking the processors off. As soon as I did, the crowd noise stopped. Med-El explained based on my recounting what happened and how it sounded pointed to it being low pitches. The fix will be to further suppress the microphones. The reason it’s not recommended is it can make streaming sound too strong/sharp but I’ll at least try it out. Note: as long as I was actively streaming something I couldn’t hear the crowd.
John F
I can hear everything even while streaming. It’s like a toned down Sonnet AudioStream. Maybe one day I’ll be able to get it all worked out.
Lauren
@John F oh - I had one program dedicated to DAI with what was supposed to be 100/0 with the microphones shut off and the processor in streaming only mode with the audiostream adapter plugged in. This is what I was referring to being surprised that I could faintly hear the crowd when the microphones were supposed to be off. It was more like the 90/10 I get when I use the DAI plug in cables with my Sonnet 2s. My other three programs don’t have any special setting. By default, the AudioStream adapter will always be a 50/50 mix so unless you go to your audiologist and request a mix change you’ll always get 50/50 streaming vs environment sounds. Lauren
Got a little more insight: ”An incorrect setting in software that was allowing for the microphone to be active.” The microphones were just barely active though, I could only hear a low murmur at the noisy restaurant when not actively streaming. It was a fluke I even found out about this.
