simekj Posted June 25, 2013 Report Share Posted June 25, 2013 Adam it is an acquired taste. It is hard to describe - maybe a savoury salty carmel flavour with a kick/bite/ bitter tang?? Marmite is more gooey and has more sugar so NZ kids tend to prefer that to vegemite. I lived in Aussie for a while so was forced to switch to vegemite and now I prefer that to marmite. The key is to start off small - very sparingly with butter and move on to a thicker layer as your taste buds allow and if you so desire. It's great with cheese or chips.
