How do you time your upgrades?

Are you the type of CI user who is eager to try every new processor and upgrade every 5 years or as soon as you are eligible?

Or are you the type of CI user who enjoys listening with the same processor as long as possible and upgrade only when necessary?

Thanks for starting this Marybeth!

I would love to try out the available new technology/ and upgrades to improve and enjoy life more!

All the listed new features of Sonnet 3 are the very ones we were waiting for.

Also of course waiting eagerly for Auracast to be available in general use.

Any thoughts on how we can get insurance to cover the new Sonnet?

I have been using Sonnet 2 Biilateral for 5 yrs.

@SKOM

In the US we must wait for regulatory approval before any Med-El US staff can answer questions, including price.  Once Med-El US announces availability, we will be able to ask for a list of items included in the upgrade kit, price and how to move forward with insurance approval.  I am eagerly awaiting regulatory approval.

Well I don't know for myself in future, but I have had my sonnet 1 for 5.5 years and now the sonnet 3 is just being released - so the timing is perfect to look at that upgrade now, especially moving up 2 models 🙂

I have used my original processors for 9 years.  By the time the Sonnet 3  is released in the US, it will be 10 years.  I agree with @Kylie

Thank you so much for your reply and responses. I was not aware that US regulatory approval was not completed yet once the new processor has been released and announced Medel on 20th September I would’ve expected everything to have been completed and ready for sale and purchase, I too am waiting eagerly for the Price structure so we can decide.

we are in Germany now and I did see my US audiologist a few weeks back. Do you know if the new device has been released and approved in Europe? I do not get straight answers from the Medel  German and Austria. Offices.

but of course, as I mentioned  way back for some reason, all Medel products and parts/accessories are almost 2 to 2 1/2 times as expensive here in Europe.

once I decide to get it through insurance, or otherwise, I will probably get it through the US site and have my audiologist remote. Download my programs.

Thank you, Mary Beth actually I was just able to talk Medel  customer service in the US and they tell me the processor has not yet been released in the US but has been available in Europe. I did reach out to the Europe offices but they just give me some emails to forward my inquiries to!!

I guess we will just cool our heels and wait it out😊

I'm with you, Kylie.  I am in my sixth year and actually have the application for upgrade on my computer, but am holding off to see what's released in the next generation.  I'm actually still really happy with my processors, so am not in a hurry.

I'm on the side of switching to new CI processors every five years. I can adapt for at least 1-2 months. It's always good to be up to date. In our country, I keep the old processors every 7 years. In 5 years, I have to surrender my current processors to insurance. I'm using Sonnet 2. I will be completing my 6th anniversary next year. I decided to wait to see the next processor.

Hi all -

I'm in the US and I'm seeing messages in our Med-El Facebook group that the Sonnet 3 does not have a telecoil function? This is disappointing since I use mine frequently with the Sonnet 2 and my Artone Bluetooth neck loop. I love the ability to tune out everything and listen only to my music or podcasts. I am not sure that I will be as eager to upgrade to Sonnet 3 because of this. However, I am just now approaching the 5-year mark for my left ear Sonnet 2 and 4 years with my right ear. So, I think I would wait to make its truly worth the switch.

@@Dylan

Sonnet 3 has direct BT streaming built in and we can have our audiologists create a program in one of our 4 program slots for streamed audio only.  When we switch to that program by using the sensor button in the Sonnet 3 or by using the AudioKey app, we would hear streamed audio only.

I am a Sonnet user who also uses the Artone for streamed audio only now but I welcome the ability for the improved audio quality and separate left/right instrumentals when direct streaming with Sonnet 3.

So my plan is to leave my main program at the default 50/50 mix and set program 2 up for streamed audio only.  Instead of switching to T, I will switch into program 2.  Streamed audio only with improved audio quality and separate left/right audio streams sounds great to me.

Sonnet 3 can access telecoil for looped environments through its AudioLink XT intermediary device.

As for timing, I waited 10 years.  I will upgrade to Sonnet 3.

Med-El posted on here that user control of mixing ratios is coming in a future update to the app.  I do not know if this is Sonnet 3 specific or not but the comment was made by Med-El in a Sonnet 3 topic.
