Neck pain 5 months after cochlear implant

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Has anyone experienced Neck pain on the implant side start approximately 5 months after implantation. I did check with my surgeon and she advised that I have my primary physician refer my to a Physical Therapist.

She felt it was from muscle contraction from implant pocket.  I am seeing a PT and have had 6 treatments with minor improvements, I do heat and the neck stretches he gave me

and still feel that pulling on that side. Just wondering what worked for those of you who have gone through this.  Appreciate any input.   Thank you

Do you experience the same neck discomfort when you are not wearing the processor?

I read about non auditory sensations from CIs sometimes presenting in the neck instead of eye tics.  If this is happening, a programming change can help.

After my first implant no issues, but second brought on a plethora of problems.  Always neck pain, then there’s the 3 way tinnitus and feeling (and hearing) blood flowing and the heart beat through back of neck.  It’s annoying.  See if you can get in to a specialist to check your neck.  There are these little needle pricks similar to acupuncture the doc can do called Trigger Point Injections that can help alleviate some pressure on the neck but not all.  Stretches and such helps a bit.

Mine kind of locked up a few weeks after surgery.  I had to use Advil for a week and found that heat was better than ice for me.  When I could tolerate it I had some massage therapy of neck and shoulder area that helped too.  Luckily it has not returned.  I wish you the best for relief.
