HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted July 11, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 11, 2013 Sandy, Are you close to Edward Island? Is there a Prince Edward Island or are they one in the same? My ancestors migrated there during the potato famine in Ireland. Not sure how long they were there before making New York Their home. HearPeers Heroes Sandy Posted July 12, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 12, 2013 Adam, I think you mean Prince Edward Island. No, I am not close to it. Driving would probably take 2-3 days. I am at what we call the head of the lakes on Lake Superior about 154 miles from Duluth, Minnesota. Prince Edward Island is lovely to visit, but then I'm prejudiced, I think the whole of Canada is a great place.
Eagle
Adam, We are located at about the center of Canada, I am right at the lowest part. Prince Edward Island is on the East Coast, and Vancouver Island is on the West Coast. About 3 days drive to either Island. I have been to both Island when I was young, PEI was beautiful and the dirt is red, great for growing potato also they were growing tobacco too. About an year later they started construction of the Confederation bridge in 1993, connecting PEI to span out 8 miles to New Brunswick and finish on 1997. Never seen the bridge but would be a show stopper to see.

It is important to love your homeland but to respect others...
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted July 12, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 12, 2013 Brian and Sandy, Thanks for the clarification. Canada is incredibly beautiful and not exactly the smallest country on the map.
Leblisa
I'd like to go to PEI some day and I live in the Northeast of USA (in New Hampshire). Even from here, it's about a 13-hour drive. I've been to Vancouver, loved it. I need to get back to Canada soon. Maybe I'll plan a vacation to PEI for next summer...
HearPeers Heroes Sandy Posted July 13, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 13, 2013 Lisa, if you decide to venture further west, you are welcome to visit! Travelling the north shore, especially in the Fall, is a sight to behold!
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted July 13, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 13, 2013 Never made it there myself. I'm from upstate NY. A number of my family members have.
Eagle
Did you know Canada have the world longest national highway that goes right across Canada from Victoria, BC, to St. John's Newfoundland. It is call the Trans Canada Highway that is about 4800 mile (7777 km) long. It goes right thru Thunder Bay, so you can't miss Sandy if you take that Highway. It would take me about 19 hours to drive to Thunder Bay depend on how fast I am going. I heard the scenery is very nice up there, never been there yet. I have a friend who moved up there, so someday I'll take a trip do some sightseeing.
