Leblisa
The more the merrier! It would be great if we could grow to be as frequented as Hearing Journey. Off topic: I'm not sure I'm liking my current program as well as my previous, but I've learned to be patient and give it time before making my final judgement. Now she's got me with just one program but I can use the FineTuner to adjust for volume and/or sensitivity. I am finding it hard to know if I'm actually changing the volume and then all of a sudden something will sound way too loud. Well, I have until late October to play with this new 'map'. HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted August 31, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 31, 2013 Lisa my audi told me not to touch the fine tuner for that exact reason. If I kept messing with a brand new program we were not sure it it was a good map or not. I left the fine tuner on the shelf and took really good notes. In the 2 years I've had the fine tuner, I've only used it to turn on the telecoil to talk on the phone.
HearPeers Heroes Sandy Posted August 31, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 31, 2013 Hi Lisa, I tend to agree with Adam. I think that is why I now have the four programs., one normal, then normal plus louder, then one for people who are soft spoken and then I asked for the music one (FSP). Only thing is, what if you need all three at once? Music is definitely a challenge. Going to check out the Bose next for the TV as I'm not having much success hearing anything clearly. I'm having so much fun! I just love my Rondo!
HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted August 31, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 31, 2013 Yes, we are growing... Regarding the second issue - I agree. Same experience with BB and my digital HA before. At first you'd like to change any time something. But through time... You start to remind you do not have need for that. HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted August 31, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 31, 2013 Lisa, I looked into the bose as I would like something that does not eat up a lot of battery life. Bose is a little out of, well ok, a lot out of my price range but I am going to find to head phones that are at least halfway decent. As far as the tv it was one of the 3 that took the longest to get. try to be patient. I am 2 years in and still have CC on my tv just in case I miss something. HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted August 31, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 31, 2013 Hey, take a look on this headphones - AKG. I have bought before 2 weeks, K430 - older model but it has good reviews: http://www.whathifi.com/review/akg-k430 and the price is under 50GBP cca 80USD? Leblisa
Hmmm, I guess I'll have to trust you guys on this. I'll press the 'reset' button and then leave it alone and see how I do. And take notes (I have to be better about remembering to do that).
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 1, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks Ivana, I will check them out. how is your recovery going?
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 1, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Lisa, look at it this way, it will be much easier and more exact if you take notes then let your audi adjust each individual electrode as opposed to you changing frequently. I'm sure it si not easy on your brain either. It would be like telling you you have to master french in one week but 3 days in I tell you to forget it now you have to learn spanish. Remember it takes PATIENCE. certain situations are going to take longer for your brain to adapt to but you have to give it a chance to figure things out. Your mappings will much easier to go through if you let the audi make the changes. I know you are a hand therapist and used to being in control during your patient visits. What would you think if you had a patient that decided to do this this and this to try and improve things but just made it a little more challenging for you to rehab the hand.? PATIENCE!! let your brain get used to hearing again. it will come.
HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted September 1, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks Ivana, I will check them out. how is your recovery going? Well, see first some reviews on the internet. I took AKG k430 - I found them here in Montpellier for reasonable price and read good reviews about them. So - why not. And after I tested them - I was satisfied. Ok - didn't hear BOSE but I bet they are blast. Hard to get in order what everything we would need... Also I read a lot of good stuff about KOSTA PORTA PRO headphone - cheap but audiologically very fine system... Really fine - France act as kind of beneficial medicament solely... I walk a lot, since a bike is still not allowed to me I bet my recovery would be much faster but - what's the heck: have to listen my doc. When did you started to prepare for your marathon? And how exactly do you start - marathon is real fight with your inner-self I guess... Waiting for my last appointment with surgeon and - returning home. Have to surprise a quite bunch number of people...
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 1, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 all I need to do is save up some money to get them. looking forward to it. I started a couple of weeks ago getting ready for the marathon. I am just looking to run and have a good time an not worry about the finish time. The distance wont be any problem for me mentally. This will actually be my shortest race this year. i ran just under 80 miles in 24 hours back in February. Only running 26 should not be an issue. I also have a 50k scheduled in December. HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted September 1, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Speaking about headphones, I have a big problem - somebody didn't think not even a little Only route to hear music is over a headphone and when I put them over my BB - it squeals a lot! I am really I just can't understand this.... Back to marathon - yes, it is all mentally but still have to know how to start. I started aerobically (walking) few days ago and today add some anaerobic exercises at home. Hopefully, it will not be such a great shock when I get back to my dearest Kona... While I was out of the town - a carbon-fibre seatpost landed... Looking forward to try it!
HearPeers Heroes Sandy Posted September 1, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Ivana, maybe with the headphones it is only because your brain has not yet recognized the sounds. I know with me and music and TV I still get a hi pitched noise over the sounds and also with some people. It could just be that you need the 3 Ps - patience being the optimum one. I sometimes have to force myself not to turn down the noises I hear because its part of what we've signed up for.
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 1, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 music took a little while to come back for me. May be you are not quite ready yet. I would talk to your audi because I am not that familiar with the BB
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 1, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 As far as the maerathon, I don't plan on racing it because it will have been 3 months from my brain surgery to the race. most peoples training cycles for a marathon are that long and they are going into training fit and strong. I'm not. 3 of my 4 last races have been MUCH longer than 26 miles so the mental side I think i will be fine. I'm doing a lot of anerobic work to get ready for it. This goes agains conventional theory out there now but it works. At least for me. It should be a blast. Also as Sandy said your brain might not be used to the sounsds yet. It is always best to touch base with your audi if you have any concerns
HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted September 1, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Unfortunately, this is not an issue I am pretty sure because I do not have technical issue - to hear, just how to conduct music not interrupted to the device. It squeals whatever headphones I place when I press mic of course. I believe here is no cure - just someone didn't think about music connectivity.... even the team leader told something like this is the first generation.... Ehhhh.... Technically, I do not have my audiologist (I had a person who tuned my digital HA, in Croatia this is not even recognized profession) - my device was calibrated by the BB team leader. Very nice guy. Of course, I will ask them what to do because this is very important thing for me. In the mean time - I was whining....

Being in the race is just something what gives the shape and the end-point to getting ready process although I don't participate into the cycle races - I am satisfied with myself when I can achieve what I put into my mind: to master a rise, take a longer ride, to get on a top of the hill etc.
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 2, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 Agreed Ivana, Always looking to challenge myself. You know some of the physical challenges I have been through so just getting to the starting line is a victory. the race is just the icing on the cake. HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted September 2, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 Of course Adam - but any kind of preparations for marathon always puzzled me... I really hate to run, but adore to ride a bike. That is why this is so mysterious to me...
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 2, 2013 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 I got ya. Dont worry, I'm used to it. Even runners (at least road runners) cant imagine why on earth I would want to run for 24 hours. I happen to really enjoy it and love the challenge the ultramarathons are totally different than road racing. in road racing, everybody is concerned about their competition on the day. sizing up who they think they can beat, who they need to keep an eye on. Your focus is to get the best time that you can. ( I am talking about some of the fasrter runnersnot lumping all road runners into this category) Back in the day my 5k times were in the mid 16:00 range. Anyhow, back in 2003 I got very sick and after a month of trying to figure out what was wrong (Every test they ran came up unremarkable or negative) they discovered I had a brain infection and had to do surgery imediatley. 3 weeks later, still in the hospital had to do a 2nd brain surgery. After I got out of the hospital, I was home for about a month from work. It was during that time that I came up with the crazy idea to run an ultramarathon. There was going to be a 50K in a local park. 7 months after getting out of the hospital I ran my first 50K and was totally hooked. It was a totally different vibe than rod runing in that it was like a big party atmosphere. Everybody was there for the experience, not "to win" . We all would encourage each other and help any runner that needed asistance. I came up on one guy that had greatly underestimated the calories he was going to need to make it to the finish. when I got to him it wwas obvious he was "hitting the wall" or "bonking" This means basically if he does not get some fluids and food like right now, he wont finish the race. I slowed down and ran (walked) with him to the start line and gave him some of my gels and sports drink. That was enough to get him to the finish. Thats what every race is like. Every time you get passed, you will get some type of word of encouragement or some type of converstion breifly before they take off. I just love that type of racing. of course physically it is a real challenge which I enjoy as well. I love to test the limits to see what i can accomplish (safely) Just loike you mentioned ivana about "Taking the next hill" the same mentality. My last few ultras have been on trails (where a majority of them take place) this will be my first semi long race on the road. cant wait. My first love was road cycling and was even on a team in my earlier years so i totally understand your love for biking and hope you get back to it soon.
