thomasroper4
Both my wife and I sent request for insurance coverage 9 years ago. When I research why they denied I found that most insurance do not cover " hearing aids". But Sis are not hearing aids. Hearing aids amplify sound but a CI is a mini computer that converts sounds to digital signals. When I convinced them that I wasn't getting a hearing aid but a CI and explained the difference then they were satisfied and covered for both of us. If you filed and were denied research the language of the plan and explain to them the difference.
Daniel the Stranger
We have a similar situation here in Australia. Coverage for hearing aids are minimum from health insurance companies. But Cochlear implants fall under the category "Surgical Implanted Prostheses" which is covered by the government and private health insurance companies. You should not mention hearing aids to the insurance company as they are not hearing aids, they are cochlear implants. Hence the misunderstanding. 10underpar
UMR, a.k.a First Health, hits with a double-whammy. They not only do not pay for external devices, but also do not count their cost toward out-of-pocket maximum!!
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted April 30, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted April 30, 2018 @10underpar If you are in the US, you can ask your Med-El Customer Service Rep to put you in touch with the Med-El insurance reimbursement specialists. Maybe they can help.
