Cycling with a RONDO

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I suppose it depends to a great extent on exactly where the implant sits but does anyone have any ideas for cycle helmets? "Standard" cycle helmets tend to have the securing band right over my RONDO. As I would rather be able to hear when riding I don't currently wear a helmet but the kids do fret about it.

I hear ya

All hats and helmets sit right where the implant is. I have considered cutting a hole in the band of my bike helmet so my processor  fits comfortably

I have to do the same for all my hats and my HardHat I wear on construction sites too.

@Jdashiell - Joe, do be careful.  Bike helmets and hardhats are designed to be used intact.  Cutting into the inserts affects structural integrity.  There are bike helmets that can be adjusted for size with a knob on the back.  I've heard of people using those, just starting large and tighten till it's fitting properly.

I have helmets with the knob and am uncomfortable smashing the processor to my head ?

I did think of that.  Do you have a Sonnet?  Could you move the processor up from behind your ear?  If it's inside the helmet it won't go anywhere.

Some people purchase extra long cables and attach the processor to their shirts so the only thing under the helmet is the coil.  When biking, it may be helpful to place the processors in EarGear covers when worn this way to block wind noise.

Med-El offers BabyWear which allows only the coil to remain on the head too.
