HearPeers Heroes Mary Featherston Posted August 8, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 8, 2018 Really? I don't think of myself as disciplined, but I guess in a way, it's like my walking. I make sure I get at least 11,000 steps a day, for bone density. And I guess I've been regarded as somewhat....obsessive about it. So I guess you've got me! Fitbit? - Yes, Fitbit. I have some friends that I'm linked to on the Fitbit dashboard and we encourage each other (well, okay, you could call it that, or you could call it compete with each other!) Also, I'm on a team now for a thing called the Amerithon challenge. We signed up as a team and track our miles and we will end up doing 3521 miles, the distance from the California coast to the east coast. It's another way to stay motivated. I also get a discount on my health insurance at work and one of the things I can choose to do to get that is regular exercise, so I synched my Fitbit to the company tracker page and bingo. Between that and keeping up with my healthcare I am getting $600 off my insurance for 2019. So, lots of reasons for me to track with something like Fitbit. That and the osteoporosis. I have actually regained bone density and as I'd much prefer not to spend my old age being carried around in a bucket due to having no bones, I exercise religiously. Carolyn
Great news about your audi appointment, Mary. You must be very happy with your test results too! I am working in Angel Sound daily, mostly on vowel and consonant recognition. So far I'm only testing at about 62 -65% (I do the training and test daily), so that is not great, but intend to keep at it. Like you, I will probably wear a hearing aid in the opposite ear, as I do have some low frequency hearing. I don't wear it much now as I am focusing solely on the CI, but I definitely do better when it is in. Is it your intention to eventually do the bimodal thing? What are your feelings about the experience of wearing both together? I will see the audi again tomorrow. I'm interested to compare the other processor with the one I am wearing. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all of your help.

HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted August 9, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 9, 2018 @Carolyn If you want to change things up a bit for speech training, have you tried the free CLIX app yet?
HearPeers Heroes Mary Featherston Posted August 9, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 9, 2018 @Carolyn - I'm only using my hearing aid till my second CI surgery in October. I don't get much assistance from it and am looking forward to being bilateral! Jewel

Carolyn
Mary Beth, Thanks for the info about the Clix app. I will look into that. I saw the audi yesterday. She tried to tone down the honking sound without much success. But the good news is that I scored 66% on speech discrimination. Considering it was only 20% with hearing aides alone, I was very happy with that result! And I 'm only one week into this process, so I am double happy. (I just hope it wasn't beginners luck or something). Honestly, I really do notice an improvement when I am out and about, ESPECIALLY when I have the other hearing aid in. I have to walk my dog daily, and I used to avoid encounters with other people and their dogs, as I was also so fearful of not understanding. I actually starting to look forward to those encounters. I still need to speech read, but it's much better with the CI. Mary Beth and Mary Featherston
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted August 11, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 11, 2018 It sounds like you are off to a great start @Carolyn Which processor are you using?
HearPeers Heroes Mary Featherston Posted August 11, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 11, 2018 @Carolyn - yes, indeed, having your hearing aid in the other ear can help. You're in early stages still, this will settle down. Keep on keeping on! Mary Beth
