Hear Life Center in Bahamas

That's where Med-El had recommended to me last year but I would still have to fly to Miami and take another plane to the Bahamas. So it didn't make sense.

I hope Jamaica gets on board with CI surgeries, but the cost is prohibitive and I doubt that Jamaican insurance companies will cover it as they hardly cover hearing aids.

@Jewel

Most US insurance plans do not cover hearing aids either.  Thankfully cochlear implants fall under durable medical equipement.

I hope cochlear implants will become available everywhere so everyone has an option to receive them.

Yes, @Mary Beth!  It's heartening to see the recommendation for CIs get less unusual.  And yes indeed - my health insurance covers $750/ear every three years for hearing aids.  It's been twenty-five years since $1500 was even half of what I was paying for my hearing aids.  My maximum out of pocket actually meant that I paid less for my CIs this year than I did for my last set of hearing aids - not because they're cheaper but because it's coded differently for reimbursement.

Same here in Australia, Hearing Aids have little to no coverage. CIs are covered under Prostheses by public and private health.

My local insurance only covers USD180 per ear every three years for a HA. That's chicken feed considering that the cheaper HAs cost around USD1500 down here.

@Jewel - it's been YEARS since I could use a HA that was that cheap.  So yes - not much of a benefit.

@Mary Featherston

Same here. My last one cost about USD4000.

They don't carry Phonak HAs down here cos they are far more expensive and no one can afford them.

I paid $6700 for my last pair of Oticon HAs, including a streamer.

that should have  included bundling but they still charged me for visits

my CIs cost me out of pocket nearly the same, but to me the outcome is light years better  with CIs
