DarlaHS
I am a new recipient of bilateral cochlear implants. I wear baseball caps and other hats very frequently. Tried to wear a baseball cap yesterday and I could not due to my implants. Is wearing caps/hats out of my life now or is there a trick to this? I would hate to giving up wearing caps/hats but it is totally worth it just to be able to hear again.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 29, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 29, 2018 @DarlaHS Are you using Sonnet Processors? Wearing caps/hats/helmets can be difficult depending on where your internal magnets are positioned. The DL-coil for Sonnets is quite flat so some people are fine with the cap resting on top of their DL-coils. Some people’s coils sit further up on their heads and comfortably fit under the cap. For some people the coil and the Sonnet are positioned very close together. What is making wearing your cap difficult for you?
DarlaHS
The bottom edge of cap rests on the top of processor. Difficult getting the transmitter to stay connected under cap.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Featherston Posted September 29, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 29, 2018 @DarlaHS - the processor doesn't have to be on your ear. You could just pop it up and let it sit under your hat if the hat is snug enough to hold it. tmscarlett10
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 29, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 29, 2018 @DarlaHS The connectivity of coil and your internal implant may become more stable as any internal swelling goes down. My right side decreased in magnet strength after a couple of months. Depending on how much space you have behind your ear, it may be possible to situate your Sonnet on the outside of your cap.
