MallaRuth
Hi everybody This is my first time starting a topic, so hoping I've followed the right protocol. Yesterday, when changing my batteries, the mic cover of my Sonnet flipped up at the back and now won't press down properly i.e. it pops straight back out very easily. It doesn't look broken. I've never changed them before... And I probably should, as I've had my Sonnets since March. I'm just terrified of dealing with that tiny pin, and risking breaking my processor, as I've had a mic cover actually break on me before (this time it was the connection at the front, by the earhook) and I had to send the whole thing back. So I guess this is a general question about how often mic covers need changing, whether it changes the sound quality, and whether it's normal for them to loosen over time and 'pop up', like mine has done. Thoughts and experiences much appreciated. Many thanks, Ruth Mary Beth
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted October 31, 2018 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted October 31, 2018 @MallaRuth sorry to read of your mic cover problem. Med-El recommends changing the Sonnet mic covers every 3 months or when sound quality diminishes. For me this means changing the mic covers every 2 months. If I wait 3 months, I notice the high frequency sounds are muted. Some people report no sound quality change with new mic covers. Others report such big sound quality changes they compare it to a new MAP. The mic covers should not pop up ever. Seems it may not have been put on correctly perhaps? Med-El has a video to show the steps. That pin will stick to the bottom of your coil magnet for safe keeping. Let us know how it goes. Good luck! MallaRuth
@Mary Beth thank you! I'll let you know if changing the mic cover fixes the popping up problem. It may be that the connection that holds it down (in the processor itself) has worn... It will also be interesting to see if it makes a difference to sound quality. It might be like getting improved glasses when you didn't realise that your old ones weren't working so well anymore!
