Ford
Hi All -- I just got my implant activated 2 days ago and was noticing what sounds like feedback (in the the traditional sense) in the very high frequencies. I believe this is impossible as there is no "speaker" producing the sound, but the very high pitches seem to ring a little with louder sounds. My audiologist did not really have an answer for what I was experiencing. I have had tinnitus for years (high frequency) and my experience is that this comes and goes, but when it happens it is constant for some time...minutes...hours maybe.... This new sound is really like feedback---if I clap my hands, there is a residual high pitched ringing for about 3 seconds that tapers off and disappears -- just as you would expect in a concert venue if the HF was feeding back on a stage or something (we used to "ring out" a room in my sound engineering days by clapping and listening for what frequencies were "ringing"...) Perhaps just my auditory nerve getting stimulated for the first time in over 10 years...but does this sound familiar and anybody have any thoughts? Thanks Ford
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted February 16, 2019 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted February 16, 2019 @Ford no feedback issues with CIs thankfully Your auditory system is dealing with lots of new input. Keep us posted.
Dan W
@Ford did you get your feedback resolved. I have what sounds to be a similar experience and was wondering if you and or your Audiologist found a solution? Dan
Ford
Hi Dan - Nothing specific...but it just kind of went away. I think perhaps it was just my perception of all those high frequencies being stimulated again that took a while for my brain to sort out. I am at 14 months activated now and that feed back sense has disappeared. We did deactivate my highest electrode (12) as we determined that it was not really contributing to anything given where it lined up. This took a little of the harsh very top edge off the whole sound map which initially sounded kind of more dull (I had adapted to it) but in the end I think cleared up some of my map. It is a work in progress Good luck and have patience -- it is a slow process but you will get there :-) Ford Mary Beth
