No disposable batteries in dry kits!

Recommended Posts

@Dave in Pittsburgh alerted us to a change in Med-El’s instructions about disposable batteries in dry kits.

Med-El now instructs us NOT to place disposable batteries in dry kits.

In the 4 years I have been a CI user, Med-El USA has included three different Dry Kits in CI kits.

Zephyr Dry and Store with Briks that are changed out every two months

It takes 8 hours to complete a cycle.  It operates at 36-40 degrees C.

DRY STAR

It takes 4 hours to complete a cycle.  It operates at 50 degrees C.

DRY SPACE

It takes 5 hours to complete a cycle.  It operates at 45 degrees C.

Until recently, Med-El user guides stated that disposable batteries could go in the dry kit.

Now Med-El says no disposable batteries in dry kits.

It appears to be due to the new dry kit, right?

@Mary Featherston

I don’t know.  The new DRY SPACE operates at a cooler temperature than the previous DRY STAR.

I never remove them since the first. I use "DryStar" dryer..

I knew that rechargeable batteries never may put inside, but no commented about disposable batteries.

@Valentin

Me too.  Med-El instructions had said we could leave disposable batteries in the dry kit.

Now Med-El’s instructions say not to leave disposable batteries in the dry kit.

Why has MED-El not contacted all users on this change regarding no batteries in dryer?!?!?

And the mystery surrounding disposable batteries in dry kits continues.  In the new Sonnet 2 guide, it says we can leave disposable batteries in the dry kits.  Either Med-El has not altered that direction yet or we are back to being able to leave disposable batteries in dry kits.  ??????

Mary Beth, I think they want to avoid people forget rechargeable battery (that are a serious problem) mantain  inside of dryer. New people when receive the kits are no familiar with batteries, procedures, drying. For avoid issues, MED EL, indicate neither batteries on drying, and they avoid some or a  lot of problems.

@Valentin

Possibly but at the present moment Med-El is sending mixed messages about whether it is okay to keep disposable batteries in the dry kits.  In some of Med-El guides they changed from okay for disposables to no for disposables.  Yet in their new guide for Sonnet 2 it says okay for disposables again.

They have always said no for rechargeable batteries.  I agree.  That could be a big problem.

It is just confusing a bit.

It may also be related to the new Dry Space Kit Med-El is using now.  The white Dry Star kit allowed disposable batteries.  The Dry Space Kit directions advise removing them.

What do you do with your Rondo 1 batteries?  Remove them or leave them in the dry kit?

Probably the old manufactured packets have old guides, and new one with new indications. I suppose that all the centers have't  the same number of surgeons, but have quantify of previous processors in stock.

I think you are correct @Valentin.

In support on Med-El’s website it says no disposable batteries in dry kit for Sonnet 2.

In support under Sonnet 2 Quick Guide on Med-El’s website it says disposable batteries are okay in dry kits.  Med-El probably has just not updated the Sonnet 2 Quick Guide yet.

Most likely the new rule remains. No disposable batteries in dry kits.

@mopakarim8700

I don’t know.  Med-El has conflicting info about disposable batteries in dry kits, even for the new Sonnet 2 manuals/guides.

Maybe @MED-EL Moderator will clarify this change in instructions about disposable batteries in dry kits for us.

Hi @Mary Beth

Sorry for the confusion about this. In the “Support” section on our website, you can find the latest update with our experts’ recommendation on how to use the dry kits for the different audio processors.

For SONNET and SONNET 2 all batteries should be removed before placing the audio processor in the drying kit:

https://www.medel.com/support/audio-processors/sonnet/basic-care/sonnet_basiccareandmaintenace

https://www.medel.com/support/audio-processors/sonnet2/basic-care/sonnet2_basiccareandmaintenance

The same applies to RONDO:

https://www.medel.com/support/audio-processors/rondo/basic-care/rondo_basiccareandmaintenace

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

Verena
