I'm not sure if I could use a practice sheet with another person, as my other ear is perfect and would cause me to accidentally cheat. Blocking my ear with my hands isn't effective. Any tips, or should I stick with exercises based on the computer where only 1 side is plugged in?

@Kylie

That is an excellent point!  Yeah that would be difficult.

Do you have CLIX on an iPad?  It starts at an easier level than the Angel Sounds.

Do you have Roger Pen or Roger Select?

No I can't find clix. And I do not have any Roger devices.

CLIX is temporarily removed from the App Store while it is being updated.  Those with CLIX already downloaded can continue to use it as before.

Direct connecting just your CI side will be your best bet for training that ear.

3rd appointment done. I now have 4 programs.

1. Regular every day use

2. Singing (less high frequency and less overall power)

3. Noisy environments

4. Rehab (when I'm plugged in - louder)

That’s cool @Kylie!

How do things sound to you at this point?

Are your programs using

omni mic setting

natural mic setting

or

adaptive mic setting?

Things on that side sound generally loud, monotonous, electronic. But my good ear balances it out ok so my overall sound is like a louder version of life and as if through a microphone. These new settings have just added more nuance so that's nice.

I have no idea! Those terms have not come up. I will ask...

I feel like a Mogwai (Gizmo from the Gremlins movie) with not being able to eat or drink after midnight. :)

Surgery went without issues. I'm at home now and resting up comfortably. 👍 Hitting up the ibuprofen and tylenol (per discharge instructions) and trying to avoid the prescribed strong stuff.

Yeah, @Watersail - the opioids always bother me one way or another too.  Percocet makes me nauseated, and Vicodin makes me feel like my head's in a different county.  Ibuprofen doesn't do those things.  Congratulations on your surgery!  Heal up, activation will be here before you know it.

Yup, it'll fly by real quick! I'm looking forward to activation day and see what I hear. The ibuprofen and tylenol are definitely doing its job as I have minimal pain/discomfort today. I do have a minor side effect, but it should resolve itself once the swelling goes down (if I recall correctly per pre-operative consult). I've sent a note to my doctor regarding the side effect to confirm my understanding that it's just temporary and nothing to worry about for now.

All my programs use natural setting (I asked the audiologist today)

Pretty good. Had my initial 4 sessions, now I'm on my own for 2 months to experience the world! Apparently I'm progressing as expected so that's good. I have a big choral concert tomorrow night so that will be a big test.

Freshly activated, so I started with my expectation super low. All 12 electrodes are in good health and active. Currently, I hear everything super, super high pitched, like everything is beyond helium. I can detect syllables, but can't differentiate speech or distinguish different layered noises yet. Time to learn how to hear all over again :)
