Experience upgrading from Rondo to Rondo 2

@Jdashiell

Are you finding yourself using your Sonnets as your primary processors now?

@Jdashiell Clever of you to discover the clicking problem with your Sonnet. Nice going! As you know, the Rondo2 doesn’t have a removable battery (by the user, at least), so there’s no option to change to disposable batteries. However, I just heard back from my audiologist that she thinks the cause of the ticking in my Rondo2 t-coil has been resolved and she will install a fix for me later this week. I hope she’s right!

i haven’t forgotten the test I’m going to do with the portable charger...it will just have wait a week or so. I sent my processors to my audiologist for a fix to the ticking issue but she’s away from her office til Friday. I’ll test it as soon as I get them back and let you know the results.

@Mary Beth don't worry, take your time. Try it with some charges with same powerbank charge to know what could be the performance. Take note about mAh of your powerbank for better accuracy. It's not the same a 2000 mAH that 4000 mAh powerbank.

@Valentin

You understand this stuff way better than me.  Here is a link to the power pack that @Joan will be using to see how many times she can charge up her Rondo 2 processors from one full power pack charge.  She will be charging up two Rondo 2 processors each night since she is bilateral.

Regarding the “ticking” issue in the t-coil which I experienced during the recent activation of my Rondo2s (see my earlier posting in this topic), I’m very pleased that the issue was addressed and successfully resolved very promptly by Med-El and my audiologist. Although I do not know the technical aspects of either the problem or the “fix”, my audiologist has applied the fix to my processors and the ticking is now gone.

To any other Rondo2 user who may be experiencing a similar issue with the t-coil, I suggest you contact your audiologist to have the fix applied to your processor(s).

That was a quick fix!  I am happy the ticking sound on your Rondo 2 processors when on MT/T is gone @Joan!

@Valentin

Starting with a fully charged Anker PowerCore 10400  portable charger which has 2 USB ports (charging was completed early in the day of the first night I began using it), I was able to charge both of my Rondo2s 4 consecutive nights. Since the charger stays on until the Rondo2 air pads are disconnected In the morning, it was on 34 hours during those charges. I attempted a fifth charge but the portable charger completely depleted after about two hours.

Being bilateral, I am beyond pleased with the capability of this portable charger! Not only is it very reassuring to know I will now have charging capabilities for my Rondo2s in the event of any future power outages, it is small and will “travel” very easily, making Rondo2 charging easily possible anywhere I might be.

@Valentin

To see if the number of overnight charges will differ with only one air charger plugged in, I will do another “experiment” with the power pack charging only one processor with it each night. I’ll let you know how many overnight uses I get doing that. Hopefully it will be even more than four!

@Joan

This is a fabulous experiment!  It is very reassuring to know we could charge 2 Rondo 2 processors for 4 consecutive nights from our one power pack.  Then recharge the power pack and all is great for 4 more nights!  Definitely helpful info when camping or experiencing power outages.

I have had that same power pack for years.  It works great and keeps its charge when stored away.

Thanks for sharing your results!

@Mary Beth

Thanks for suggesting such a great power pack! Especially after my recent experience with multiple power outages within a three week period,  I strongly recommend every Rondo2 user have a backup non-electrical power source for charging their processors. This power pack definitely meets that need!

@Joan How was your experience with Rondo 2 in very low pitch voice,very high pitch voice and in large groups?

I'm very eager to know

@Nischal Koirala Thus far, my experiences have all been good. I’ve not singled out any particular voice range as being problematic. I’ve not had much large group experience but have done well without an assistive device in those groups I have been involved with.

@Mary Beth

i just concluded my experiment of charging just one Rondo2 per night on the portable charger. I got EIGHT nights of charging, leaving the charging pad plugged in to the portable charger eight to nine hours per night...double what I got when charging two Rondo2s simultaneously!
This portable charger is great! I would highly recommend every Rondo2 user have one...for travel, for camping, for power outages or other emergencies, etc.
Thank you Mary Beth for leading me to it!😊

Thank you @Joan for running those tests and sharing your results!  It is very comforting to know that the power pack would charge Rondo 2 processors for so long.  Great peace of mind.

@Nischal Koirala

Our MAPs are adjusted by our audiologists to give us access to all voices.  I can hear young children, teens, deep male and female voices with all of my Med-El processors (OPUS2, Rondo and Sonnet).

Hearing well in noise varies among CI users. It also varies among CI users who use the same type of processors.  You will find Rondo 2 users who hear well in noise and Rondo 2 users who prefer to use assistive tech in noise to hear better.

@Mary Beth What kind of assistive techs can we use with Rondo 2?

@Nischal Koirala

BT steaming of all audio....

Artone 3 MAX BT neckloop!  Awesome device.  You will find many happy Artone users here. Some of us have two so one is always charged and ready to use.  ($129 US)

Wired headphone jack connection......

CozyPhones flat stereo speakers in a headband.  Terrific sound quality with true left/right stereo sound for music. ($20 US)

TV streaming......

Artone TVB used with Artone 3 MAX BT neckloop.  Wonderful sound quality. No audio delay.  TV can even be on mute and you can still hear it just fine. If you search in HearPeers, you will see recent reviews of the Artone TVB. ($55 US + Artone 3 MAX BT neckloop)

Remote Mic....worn by another person or set on the table for a small group

Artone Mic used with Artone 3 MAX BT neckloop ($99 US + Artone 3 MAX BT neckloop)

Roger Select used with Roger MyLink neckloop receiver ($1100 US)

My favorite tech for Rondo/Rondo 2 (they have the same tech options)....

Artone 3 MAX BT neckloop- I use mine everyday and have been for the past 3+ years.

Artone TVB- just tested it out and I LOVE it.

CozyPhones - excellent when I need to plug into a headphone jack.

If you want a remote mic or table mic...it really depends on how you plan on using it and where you plan on using it.  In my daily life I have no need for a remote mic.  I hear fine in groups, in classes, at restaurants and in noise just with my processors.  But I do have both the Artone Mic and the Roger Select/Roger MyLink and have tested them out in various settings.  So if you have any questions, I will do my best to share my experiences with the two remote mic options I mentioned.

@Mary Beth I cannot afford that all things you mentioned.

Artone 3 max neckloop comes with CI kit in other countries but India manages the sales of my country.So I also don't have Neckloop.

What about my link and any other Neckloops?🙂
