Have got the most annoying feeling in implantation ear like its full of water Been told this is normal and will fade, apart from that pain going away nicely Slight matallic taste in mouth but that's meant to fade as well ,everything else looking good Might not tell hubbie yet he might stop helping!!! masona
That's normal for any operation, about 2 weeks you start to feel a bit stronger, sometime I haven't got the energy to walk up the road! Was told it's to do with the anesthetic in our system, have got a slight pain now and then and that might be because the swelling is down to normal therefore taking Co-codamol as and when. kaztrekie
1 week after implant feeling ok today but to rushing it phoned doctors they said dizzeyness was normal and to rest Try that with two kids! But stitches and head don't seem to be bothering me today Just waiting now to have x ray and see surgeon then hopefully get activation date. Hurry up the 27th
masona
Have you got stitches? haven't got any and they used glue for me! Not sure why though
kaztrekie
Wow no I had stitches about 5 of them only got a couple left now ,how come they used Glue it's a deep wound never heard of that before my daughter had glue when she cut her Head open and that was a small wound but I thought for surgery you would need stitches As long as its healed ok but I would check with the surgeon and ask maybe they Managed to only do a small amount of cutting. kaztrekie
Ok did small amount of research there is new way they do surgery which involves a small incision on 4/5 cms and only requires glue to heal ,I have a full size incision of about 2 inches So I think you got the new operation would also explain why it was less painful
masona
Mine is over 5cm but under 10cm they may have tried the glue to see if they can get away with it! They used the same incision cut from the perforated ear drum op about 6 wks ago and the centre of the implant magnet which I can feel is not high about 30mm above the top of the ear which I'm pleased about as I did ask them if possible to keep it down lower but wouldn't promise me. I like to keep it out of sight under my hair to start with but that's me! Just back from Addenbrroke's, post op check and x-ray, have asked them to send me the x-ray photo via my email! Looking at the x-ray they have managed to get all the electrode arrays wire all the way in the cochlear! Now depends on what I will hear from the mapping sessions, got loads of appointments now so don't make any plan yet!
kaztrekie
I'm so excited got my X-ray date next Friday but also my activation dates Which are the 10 th and 11 th oct I can't wait been dancing round house Have also got another app for the week after I'm so excited
masona
On the X-ray appointment, you'll get another 6 appointments this year, 3 x 2 appointments on the same day, so 3 more dates for your dairy!
kaztrekie
They have given me two appointments on the 10th and 11th and another on the 15th My diary is getting nice and full got a little confused because spire lea gave me a Appointment as well as Addenbrokes been told don't need the spire lea one now. So lost one gained three.
kaztrekie
Today was my x ray at Addenbrokes which went great all the electrodes are in place And it looks good though I must admit seeing it on the x ray was about Odd to think that's in my head!! They took out the last remaining stitch hitch was bugging me and she said The wound etc was helping nicely and I had a great surgeon My hopes are already up for my activation even if it doesn't work at least I have tried this If I hear beeps it will be great anything else I ll just be dancing round the room Apparently the surgeon used soft surgery in order to save what hearing he could in that ear Well that did nt work as I lost what little there was there but never mind because it doesn't make that much difference to me, Waiting game now till activation
kaztrekie
Thought I would post a quick update, today the nerves are really setting in about activation on Wednesday Not sleeping well and am worried which I am told is normal!! Questions like what if it doesn't work, what if I need another implant does my audiotery nerve work Etc etc et keep running though head Tomorrow I am going out for day Sunday doing housework Monday and Tuesday I will prob just panic and as or we'd I will let you know Fingers toes etc crossed
masona
Understandable, this was one of my question I asked the consultant, they would not do any implant surgery if there's a chance you may not hear out of it. Although we may not hear all the 12 electrode arrays sounds but even it's 50% is still good! Remember when the first cochlear implant started there was only 1 electrode array and they coped okay!
