TurboRev 0
Has anyone received bilateral cochlear implants simultaneously? What was the experience like for you?
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth 2,907 Posted February 13 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted February 13 @TurboRev I received my CIs sequentially 8 months apart but I have friends and have read posts from adults who received their CIs simultaneously and it went well for them. There are some definite pros: - only one surgery - only one recovery period - activating both sides simultaneously lets you train the sides together - many less appointments than sequential CIs require And a few things to consider: - no access to sound between surgery and activation unless residual hearing is preserved - both sides of your head will be tender at the same time so finding a comfortable sleeping position may be tricky for a bit - wearing glasses may be uncomfortable for a few days (I removed one arm of an old pair of glasses when I had sequential surgery.) Which CI center are you going to? I go to NYEE in NYC.
