HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted February 21, 2021 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted February 21, 2021 I just read about using a post operative image along with OTOPLAN from Med-El to customize our CI frequency MAPs based on exactly where each electrode is located in our unique cochleas. Also using an objective test (ART) to create a recommended MAP. I love how Med-El is introducing ways to customize our programming based on objective tests (imaging with OTOPLAN) and ART.... along with subjective feedback from users. https://www.medel.pro/products/maestro9 Dani and Megan L.
Dani
Thank you very much @Mary Beth Does anyone have a map where the center frequencies were moved? I have one in my older right ear. I found the correct center frequencies by myself by listening to each electrode's center frequency and comparing the sound to what I heard in my hearing aid on the other side. Speech was then much clearer and intelligibility has boosted from one to the next day (and female voices no longer sounded like deep male voices in my case 😀 ). My newer left ear does not have a modified map with moved center frequencies. My last audiologist didn't want to do that kind of fitting last friday 😒
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted February 22, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted February 22, 2021 @Dani I have a friend with Med-El CIs who is participating in research that uses imaging and adjustments to the frequency bands per electrode. She loves her new MAPs. My electrodes are not set to the typical center frequencies because I participated in image guided cochlear implant programming at Vanderbilt based on CT scans of my electrode placements and targeted electrodes were turned off. This resulted in all frequencies being shifted among the active electrodes so no frequencies are lost. Therefore my center frequencies are not the same as if all 12 electrodes were active. HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted March 3, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted March 3, 2021 @MED-EL Moderator I have been learning about anatomy based fitting and am so excited that Med-El is developing ways of customizing our CI settings to best match the way our electrode arrays are positioned in our unique cochleas. I have a question. Using a post-operative CT image of our cochlea showing how the electrodes are positioned, along with OTOPLAN 3, to align frequency bands for each electrode based on our own unique situation in Maestro 9, sounds beyond exciting!! Which internal implants can this be used with? Concerto? Synchrony? Synchrony 2? older internals? Thank you Jared Charney
MED-EL Moderator
Hi @Mary Beth, thanks for your questions! Anatomy-based fitting is compatible with all multichannel MED-EL cochlear implants going back to 1994, so this can be used with any available MED-EL cochlear implant. ABF is currently compatible with the SONNET 2 and RONDO 3 audio processors. Of course, it is important to consider that even though it is possible on all of our cochlear implants, fitting and hearing experience depend on many factors, and experienced recipients may be well-acclimated to their default maps, so long-term users may prefer to keep their existing fitting. There is very interesting ongoing research on this subject for both new activations and existing recipients, stay tuned! Hope that helps! Best regards, Verena
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted March 4, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted March 4, 2021 @MED-EL Moderator That is very exciting! Please share a link to the research on ABF with new and existing CI users when it is available. Thank you!
