Residual Hearing

Hello!

I received an implant in December 2014 and got it activated on the day before New Year's Eve. I have a question I've been wondering about. Since MED-EL offers the latest technology of cochlear implant including the preservation of residual hearing, will remaining residual hearing be affected more if I decided to have the CI removed surgically? Just wondering...

Why would you have the ci removed voluntarily?

Well regardless of the reason, I would doubt there is too much data out there to answer your question, as there has been VERY few cases where a medel device needed to be explanted compared to other CI manufacturers, especially voluntarily.

Well, taking into account that taking out literally means "brushing up" individual's cochlea - inspite of special care, damage could be done.
