Darin
I had a vestibular schwannoma removed three years ago. It left me profoundly deaf in one ear and heavy tinnitus. From what I have read nerve damage isn’t mitigated by cochlear implant but my neurotologist (?) has indicated the nerve is healthy enough for this to be a solution. He has suggested that even in a worst case scenario my tinnitus would be resolved and that best case would allow me to hear and understand spoken words. Has anybody gotten a CI for the same reason? What kind of experience have you had? I’m nervous about committing to this if it’s just not going to work.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted June 29, 2021 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted June 29, 2021 @Darin Welcome to HearPeers! It’s a big decision. My hearing history is different than yours but the outlook prior to CI surgery in my right ear was very guarded. Fortunately for me my right ear responded very well to aural rehab after activation and is a great CI ear. I hope you are as fortunate. Wishing you the best. HearPeers Heroes Kylie Posted June 30, 2021 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted June 30, 2021 My tinnitus is significantly reduced (I forget I have it!) With my CI. Many people experience this wonderful benefit. My original damage was also different to yours, but the result is fairly common. Plus improved hearing would be wonderful obviously.
