SKOM
I have a Apple devices My audio stream works very well with my iPhone 11 Pro I have had no problems. But I have not been able to connect and pair with my iPad 12.9 inch inch fifth-generation .AudioStream used to connect well with the iPad initially for about 10 days and after that over the last 2 to 3 weeks it’s been a battle it does not pair at all I have gone through many hours of troubleshooting talking to technical support in Apple and Med El. I have a tested my AudioStream on many different iPads in the Apple store and at home with the same result finally the conclusion from Tech support is that there is a compatibility issue between AudioStream IPad The Irony is that in the original list of compatible devices for AudioStream iPad 12.9 is listed! On the MedEl site Thanks

Karen T
Hi, I will try to help. I have an iPhone 12 and an iPad mini 2. When I want to use my iPad with Audiostream, I first make sure the Bluetooth is off on my iPhone. Then I turn on Bluetooth on my iPad, and open Bluetooth to see the list of devices. I select the 2 devices named “KarenBT’s hearing device” as set up by the audiologist. Those are listed as “not connected” until I click on them one at a time and watch the status change to “connected” (For some reason, my 2 Sonnets are also on that list of devices on both my iPhone and iPad but I leave those alone) Then I open AudioKey 2 and go into the listening settings. There are the 2 icons of Sonnets that are shown as “ disconnected”. I click on the window and wait for both icons to change to “connected” It sometimes takes a couple times to connect. Then when I am finished using my iPad, I usually turn off BT so I don’t forget when I go to use my iPhone the next time for streaming a phone call or other audio Did you see anything new here to try? That is so odd that it worked for you for 10 days then stopped working. I will try to think of what could be interfering with the connection. HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 @Jared Charney @SKOM This is a different way to switch to iPad. Check out @Karen T’s post above.
SKOM
Thank you so much Karen for your help Do you mean to say that for the iPad mini the audio stream shows up in the Bluetooth settings and not in the accessibility options as these are MFI ? I just tried it that way a few times and nothing happened let me see if I can attach the screenshot I took I have the new iPad 12.9 inch fifth generation that I am working on right now and this is the one that has not been connecting and pairing after the first 10 days I have had this iPad for about four five weeks now and the rest of the time I have been troubleshooting spending a lot of time with Apple Tech and support and Med El on the phone and at the Genius Bar I have tried several different ipads at the store to no avail. They finally said its probably a compatibility issue with the Audio processor and IPad —I have today sent messages through Verena at MedEl to their engineers too. Oddly my wife’s iPad 11inch pro connects well!! Which is the only iPad amongst all the ones I’ve tested I am now using Artone with IPad until someone gives me a magical solution here, thanks again Karen and Marybeth Mary Beth

Karen T
I don’t have an Accessibility option on my iPad. My Audiostreams appear in the list of devices in Bluetooth. See the screen shot. I do however have the Accessibility option on my iPhone and my Audiostream is shown there as a hearing device when I turn on Bluetooth, same as your screen shot. I have learned a lot today and the past few days through this discussion and chatting with Mary Beth. It is so odd that your new iPad worked great for 10 days and then it didn’t, for no apparent reason. I do hope the MedEl engineers can figure out what the glitch is. Karen T
I found the Accessibilty option on my iPad - it is under General My Audiostream is listed as a hearing device Something else learned! SKOM
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 @SKOM I see a left AudioStream noted in your picture. But the green is showing as telling the device to send audio to left and to right. Does that cause problems? Karen T
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 Another thought. @SKOM 1) on iPad under hearing devices, forget this device 2) on iPad delete the AudioKey2 app 3) soft reset of iPad 4) reinstall AudioKey 2 try again
SKOM
No When the iPad is not connecting and Pairing it does different erratic messages until the pairing request message shows up—which doesn’t
SKOM
Thanks Marybeth I do not have the AudioKey 2 app on the iPad secondly does the app work to connect with processors on two devices? when I initially downloaded the app on both iPad and phone the actual functions and controls were possible from the phone only so I have not loaded it back after the numerous restoration and troubleshooting
SKOM
Also when once the audio stream is successfully configured on the AudioKey 2 app it connects and pairs independently in the accessibility options on the Bluetooth device at least that is how its supposed to work! HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 @SKOM yes AudioStream is supposed to seamlessly follow the iPhone/iPad hand off feature. But that does not seem to be working for many. If it was me, I would try the exact approach @Karen T described above because she has been using both her iPhone and iPad successfully with her bilateral AudioStreams. When I borrowed my friend’s two AudioStreams again recently and used them all day for a week, I did not use them with my iPad since I do not stream from my iPad routinely. So I have no firsthand experience to share with switching between iPhone and iPad. But Karen does and it is working for her. Karen T
@SKOM@Mary Beth I do have the AudioKey2 app on my iPad also and I open the listening settings each time, to make sure the Sonnets are connected. I sometimes have to reconnect them when using my iPad.
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 @SKOM and @Karen T Karen is using bilateral Sonnet 2 processors which connect via BT directly to phone/tablet to use AudioKey2 app as a remote. (Which is why they are probably listed under BT as Sonnets.) @SKOM Please refresh my memory. Are you using Sonnet 1 or Sonnet 2? Are you unilateral or bilateral CI? SKOM
MaryBeth I have bilateral MedEl implants using Sonnet 2 processors I just finished trying carefully on both the iPad and the iPhone various steps and procedures that Karen and you had outlined I have the App on both devices now logged in - but the app can connect to the Sonnet only on one device not both at the same time-meaning if i am connected on the phone through the app i would have to disconnect first and then connect the app on iPad to my sonnets Next even after I make sure I have disconnected Bluetooth on the phone in order to be able to make the Bluetooth connection on the iPad and having gone through various the steps that your both mentioned I still end up getting the message as shown previously without the final pairing request box! Could not load attach/screenshot
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 @SKOM very frustrating I’m sure. In your pic above only one AudioStream was discovered by your device. For me, that required rebooting the other AudioStream and setting it very close to my device and waiting for it to appear as L+R in hearing devices in black font. Then selecting it and they both connected. Pics here From everything I have read by users so far, turning off BT on the present device before turning on BT on the second device is unfortunately a necessary step at this time. I do hope you are able to solve your iPad connection. Did you forget this hearing device on your wife’s iPad ?
SKOM
Here is what I just learned after testing for some time The App is functional and connects through one device at. A time which is what I am able to do now and thence also to use as a remote also. even while the app is connected to my sonnets through the IPad audio does not route to the processors because they are not yet paired in Accessibity option although connected in BT settings! when i test one device i make sure to disconnect the other. HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 1, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 1, 2021 @SKOM The Sonnet2 with the AudioStream covers actually is using 2 completely separate BT receivers. Sonnet 2 has a built in BT receiver that works to connect directly with AudioKey2 for its remote functions. This works even when not using the AudioStream covers because this BT receiver is built into the Sonnet 2 (not the Sonnet1). When we select BT via AudioKey2 we are establishing this connection. And this connection of Sonnet2 is listed under the device’s BT list. When we attach AudioStream to the Sonnet2 we are using the BTLE receiver located in the AudioStream cover. This requires a one time configuration through the AudioKey2 app. Top left menu. Connectivity. Follow prompts. This configuration is what sets one AudioStream as right and the other as left to work as a paired set of hearing devices. Without proper configuration both AudioStreams identify as left and there is no way to stream to both simultaneously. Once we configure the 2 AudioStreams via the connectivity prompts in AudioKey2 and receive a SUCCESSFUL message, we never need to return to AudioKey2 for the purpose of streaming with AudioStream. It is important to reboot the AudioStreams after the successful message so the iPhone moves them into settings…. accessibility….. hearing devices where they should be listed as “MB’s hearing devices” and underneath say L + R. When they both show up there in black font, selecting them brings us to a connected screen full of happy green indicators. However if they show up in gray font… or only one of two show up… we need to reboot the AudioStreams one at a time and set very close to the device and wait until the font turns black. After both are there in black font, selecting them brings us to the happy green indicators once again. It did not matter whether my device stated NOT CONNECTED or NOT PAIRED. This method solved both issues 100% of the time for me and it took 2 minutes. Maybe I was fortunate. I am just sharing in case this method helps others too. SKOM
Thank you so much Mary Beth for this detailed description/information. This was my understanding too. But if I have Bluetooth open in both devices at the same time And the app is open are you saying that it can be a functional and connect to both sonnets at the same time? Working as remote so i have the option of using either app as remote? not happening here
