that is awesome. Does anyone find that you are hearing better than those around you? Or do we just listen better?

Lol Sandy, according to my wife I need to work on listening :D

There have been situations in noise where I have heard better than a few of my hearing friends

Yeah!! Well he worked in a loud wood shop for 13 years. Also as a teenager listened to music really loud. I told him back then it wasn't good for him. So I think if he has hearing loss it's still quite minor. He will be 40 this year.

There are one pretty amazing hearing aids out there. Couldn't hurt to get it checked to see where he is at.

Yeah exactly. I have a good hearing specialist at the end of our street. I will send him there.

Ugh, let him at first - to check his ears.

Noise induced hearing loss is not uncommon - especially if he hadn't wear a proper hearing protection.

Well I have had hearing loss for my whole (that I can remember) and he has seen the improvement in me with my implant. I wouldn't want him to miss out. He sees it too.

Good that he sees it. Will make the process easier moving forward.

When I started losing mine, I didn't want hearing aids

So Adam, you have passed a path from hell to a heaven, I guess. :)   At least there is one advantage when you have hearing loss since you know for yourself - you usually except easier present status. Grown up people actually complicate things more then they should... :P

For sure. I have difficulty getting my father in.aw to except the fact that he needs hearing aids. He thinks there too expensive and doesn't want to have to worry about the little devices. He's 70. Really he should just listen to me!! Makes me crazy! The. He asked me if I was hearing yet I said well much better but it's not quite there yet. He says oh so it didn't work?? Grrrr!! It's a work in progress we all tell him. He doesn't get it!!

My grandfather was the same way. Had hearing aids but never wore them

Yeah. I have seen that too with the elderly. It's foreign to some of them.

Kara, lot's of people who are in the field don't understand the process of developing hearing with a CI - so, excuse your father in law, especially if he is 70. For any kind of technology, you have to be extremely open, otherwise you'll fail. I huess this is even deeper within human innerside - most of people are just waiting that life happen to them. Otherwise - non passaran. ;)

That's why your decision is even more valuable - to cope with technology and all other stuff which go along with it. It's a difficult path, only few understand that without pain - there is no game! ;):)

And - about not wearing HAs: there should be invested a lot of support to reach people. Most of the rest don't understand that - we've been discussing one-dimensional surgeons in the context of patient's complications. It's practically same.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink

Sometimes people that are older are set in their ways, as well as younger people. Ultimately that person has to make the decision to utilize the technology given. Just try to keep encouraging whoever is going through this. For some people it can be hard to accept and embrace. Just try to have patience.

I call it concrete!! Throughly mixed and permanently set!!! That's my father in law for sure. But I have noticed that my mother in law whom I call mom is looking into taking him for a hearing test. So there is hope!!!
