Carol D
Hopefully, this will post this time Please answer the following questions as I am so uncertain if I am hearing the way I should How far do you have to be from the speaker in order to hear clearly? Can you hear if they are not facing you, or in another room? How about outdoors? Is it much worse to hear ? Do you need streaming in order to under stand the TV? Thank you for your help! Carol D. HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted May 15, 2022 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted May 15, 2022 How far do you have to be from the speaker in order to hear clearly? I can hear and understand people who are quite a distance away. Can you hear if they are not facing you, or in another room? Yes. We can converse from different rooms. This works best for me in an Omni mic program. How about outdoors? Is it much worse to hear ? I converse fine outdoors. Sometimes wind can be an issue. Do you need streaming in order to under stand the TV? No I listen to TV through the regular TV speakers. A lot of this can be related to our MAP (program) created by our audiologists, the amount of aural rehab we do to train our brains to best use the CI and time. Hi carol, im in my 8th month of activation. My responses same as mary beth. In the first couple months i felt as though i had to see everything i was hearing. I turned off closed captions on my streaming tv which helped me focus on not seeing the words, but felt as though i was still lip reading. By three months active closed captions were turned off everything, and i am much better at hearing without looking. I cant tell how far away folks have to be now, i can hear and understand so much. I hear the town train now which is miles away. Gotta tell ya, sometimes i just close my eyes and identify the different sounds that are present. Wind is a pain, but i put my hand over the mic and can converse just ok, i will get more practice now that its bar b que time. I am amazed at outdoor sounds, im outside waiting for more humming birds. Im told the map settings i have have a wind setting, which can be adjusted by audi. I live in farmville, lol, so its field tractoring time, the other night i could hear the machine but it was not in my field of vision, it was at least a mile or two away. I watch two tvs one i watch and listen no streaming and one is streamed. I stream music from my phone, i can use my phone either way, blue tooth or phone on speaker. Carol D
Thank you. sounds like I have some work to do, or my map program is not right. I live in a house that as 16 ft ceilings and stone floors, so the echo is a killer. I am working on some of the apps for rehab as recommended by MaryBeth. Wish I had found them sooner. I really appreciate the input. Mary Beth
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted May 17, 2022 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted May 17, 2022 Hang in there @Carol D. Difficult listening environments are challenging for all of us. Aural rehab helps. Abdulaziz
Dianna
Hey carol how you doing?? I am retired, so it was easy to make time for rehab, no children or spouse, so doing the apps was easy for me, im sure its more difficult for busy folks, i can promise you it helps so much...the rehab programs can help you pinpoint what you might be needing to be adjusted. Consonants i still have issues with are m and n words, t and s. So i told my audi this and other notes i made to discuss. In the beginning, i would go thru lessons, get done, and not notice change, but then i would notice during conversation that there was improvement! Keep up the good work!
