Loss of taste buds

Hi. My name is Lucy and I lost my hearing in my left ear. I recently got the cochlear implant and lost my taste buds. Has anyone else experienced this?

congratulations on your CI!  Which processor did you choose?

Loss of taste is a possible side effect from CI surgery.  For most it is temporary.  If you have a follow up appt with your surgeon, it may be helpful to bring it up.

Have you heard anything more from Lucy? I am interested to hear if her taste returned.

I am almost a month from surgery and still have tastebud change on the left edge of my tongue.  Either I am getting used to it or it has improved a bit since surgery but it is not gone.  It makes my coffee taste salty.

@Amy Leach it took about six months for my sense of taste to get back to normal.

@Amy Leach It also took me almost 6 months post surgery before I actually realized my taste is back to normal. There is the odd food that seems to trigger an odd taste (e.g. popcorn or really salty chips which gave a bit of a metal taste but I haven't had those in so long I can't confirm if I'm still having issues).
