Lucyr1969
Hi. My name is Lucy and I lost my hearing in my left ear. I recently got the cochlear implant and lost my taste buds. Has anyone else experienced this?
HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted October 28, 2022 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted October 28, 2022 @Lucyr1969 congratulations on your CI! Which processor did you choose? Loss of taste is a possible side effect from CI surgery. For most it is temporary. If you have a follow up appt with your surgeon, it may be helpful to bring it up. Have you heard anything more from Lucy? I am interested to hear if her taste returned.
Amy Leach
I am almost a month from surgery and still have tastebud change on the left edge of my tongue. Either I am getting used to it or it has improved a bit since surgery but it is not gone. It makes my coffee taste salty.

NathalieM
@Amy Leach It also took me almost 6 months post surgery before I actually realized my taste is back to normal. There is the odd food that seems to trigger an odd taste (e.g. popcorn or really salty chips which gave a bit of a metal taste but I haven't had those in so long I can't confirm if I'm still having issues).
