HearPeers Heroes Jdashiell Posted January 19, 2018 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted January 19, 2018 I found this phrase quite interesting. A disturbance introduced at the oval window is transmitted as a wave which travels along the basilar membrane with the remarkable property that as each frequency component of the travelling wave reaches its place of resonance it stops and travels no further. The cochlea is thus a remarkably efficient frequency analyser. My hearing faded away over 20 yrs ago and I have educated myself along the way. I consider myself an amateur sound engineer and student of hearing loss. And as an amateur musician I find the study of sound, hearing, truly amazing. I am so grateful to be "restored" to hear again with a cochlear implant. What an incredible invention. Reading further in the article on the function of hearing is requiring me to reread and study further. My understanding is basic and I want to know more.
