HearPeers Heroes Sandy Posted September 25, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 25, 2013 Hi Daniel and congratulations on your CI and welcome to HearPeers. I'm sure a number of us will jump in with their experiences. I've been implanted now for 5 months and I love my Rondo. It's one day at a time and living with the 3Ps - patience, practice and perseverance. Prior to my implant I relied totally on lip reading and now, although I still lip read, I can hear and participate in conversations. At first it was all high pitched sounds, as those are the first sounds you lose when you start to lose your hearing. It took about a month before I recognized and some sounds were normal. I still have more mapping to do and will assume this will happen for awhile. I keep notes of the different sounds and lists of questions for my audiologist. I've found for this to work, you must get out in the hearing world and listen and participate. This has been a magnificent journey and everyday there is something new happening. The support of family and friends is of great importance. If you have specific questions, someone on this forum can probably help as we are all at different levels of our journey. Or we will point you in the right direction. Good luck and enjoy the ride, it is worth every minute. kbetz63
HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted September 25, 2013 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 25, 2013 Daniel, Welcome to hearpeers. I do not have a rondo but wanted to welcome you. Sandy already gave you some great advice so I wont repeat. Ask as many questions as you can and be sure to let us know how you are doing Adam
jpl2ci
Hola Daniel, bienvenidos a HearPeers! I am a bilateral RONDO user and it is a wonderful device. I wear glasses so not having an earpiece from my glasses fighting for space with a CI is a great relief. The sound quality is excellent and it is so lightweight that I can forget that I am wearing it. Ask away and we will try to answer your questions and give you the benefit of our experiences. I got my first RONDO in January this year and my second one in March as I was part of a early market release study. I look forward to hearing from you. Leblisa
Hola Daniel! I'm another happy Rondo user. I agree the sound quality is great (once the brain acclimates to it) and it's easy to wear, especially if you have a bit of hair to attach the tether to so you don't lose it if it does get knocked off (which does happen to me about once/day). I have an Opus 2 as well, but really haven't used it at all. Buena suerte! Lisa
MontanaBabe
I was implanted on April 28, 2015. I chose the RONDO for my processor. It is now June 22 and I am not able to use the RONDO with confidence. I have a Level 4 magnet which is suppose to be the very strong level. I can keep the RONDO on my head at home if I am very careful about how I walk and my actions cannot be quick or unexpected or the device falls off my head. It has been two months now so the swelling should have gone down by now. I am aware that there is actually a Level 5 magnet but it must be ordered special. I have read that if the magnet is too strong it causes an uncomfortable feeling and itching of the scalp. I have not experienced that feeling or itching with the Level 4 magnet. I chose the RONDO for two reasons: 1. the electronic probe was the longest available of any of the implants available thus allowing for a larger range of frequency hearing and 2. There would be no need for the processor to be behind the ear. Currently I am using the SONNET 98% of the time because I cannot get the RONDO to stay on my head. Any thoughts? HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted June 22, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted June 22, 2015 Hi Daniel, Welcome! I was implanted in February and have an Opus 2 and a Rondo. They both sound great to me and I wear both depending on what I am doing. I do find that I have to have the volume in the Rondo set slightly higher due to its mic placement on my head. HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted June 22, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted June 22, 2015 MontanaBabe, It does take some time for the swelling to go down. Each person is a little different. It can take a while. This might be an issue. You can try parting your hair, also I am pretty sure it comes with a hair clip with a thing piece of something like fishing line. One end attaches to the rondo, the other, to a clip that you can attach to your hair. This way, if the processor does fall off, it won't hit the ground. Regina
Hi I was implanted in May and I too have a Rondo but am currently wearing my Opus 2 as I have found that one to hear better with although the Rondo is great too. One the questions I wanted to ask here for Rondo users is...any of you do water activity and have the Wearever for the Rondo? Was wondering how that worked. I did water aerobic before my surgery and wanted to get back into that and found that was the only CI that had anything that waterproofs. Thanks for any help. HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted October 16, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted October 16, 2015 Regina, I love the water wear for the Rondo. I used it everyday this summer in the pool. kbetz63
Regina
thank you so much for this imput.... where did you purchase it and how much was the cost? Do you wear a bathing cap along with it. I not only do water aerobic but love the pool as well as the lakes when we go out on the boat....prior to this CI nothing worked to protect other hearing aids and taking them off while in the water was not fun and missed alot of family conversation therefore I just dreaded getting in the lake for that reason kbetz63
kbetz63
Good morning. I currenlty am implanted with the Opus 2 in my right ear, have been going on 4 years. I am possibly having my left ear done this coming year and I am considering the Rondo. One of my concern was being able to hear adequately. Someone mentioned something about the mic facing the back and not the front where the conversation is. Is this true, does the mic face a certain way? I would've thought you could move it around to place where you felt it was placed for optimal hearing you'd be good. Is that not true, can you not move it? HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted October 30, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted October 30, 2015 Regina- In the pool, I just wear the water wear. The only time it fell off was when I was putting on goggles. It sinks fast. In a lake or the ocean I would suggest a Nammu cap or MedEl's sports headband. It was awesome to enjoy conversations and music while in the pool last summer! Kristine- My Rondo sits with the mic at the top. I hear just fine. The only difficulty I have experienced is when in a restaurant with booth seating if the speaker behind me has a louder voice than my table mates. Other than that, I hear the same with the Rondo and the Opus 2. The new Sonnet has some extra features. I have not received my Sonnet yet. kbetz63
Hi Mary Beth, Thank you so much for responding. So glad to hear the Rondo works well. I'm a bit anxious about it because I have always woren bte hearing aids and have the Opus 2 bte. Sorry, still learning what all is there. what is the Sonnet? HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted November 2, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted November 2, 2015 Hi Kristine Sonnet is new outer unit, successor of the Opus 2. Please read little bit about it here: http://www.medel.com/sonnet/ If you live in the USA, Sonnet still doesn't have fully functional specification but technically it's improved model. HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted November 3, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted November 3, 2015 Yes the water wear for the sonnet and opus 2 is not yet available either
grahammj
Hi. I am a Rondo user. I switch between the Rondo and the Opus 2. When I have my hair down, I prefer sliding on the Rondo. The hearing capacity seems to be the same. Feel free to ask me questions.
Ms_D
Hi Daniel, I had the implant done on my right ear (born deaf in) back on January 7th of this year and Activation Day was February 12th. The Rondo is my primary processor. I actually like it better than my back up processor (Opus 2). Although I still have quite some room to improve (a few months ago, I did not have much time to practice due to after I got engaged in April, my fiance's father got sick and passed away, so we stayed busy during that time and did not get to practice. Even during that time, we were planning our wedding for May - which, unfortunately, his dad did not live to get to witness). For the first couple of months, my husband and I both had to go to the emergency room, and we were both in and out of doctor offices all the time, so very little time to practice. We are getting back on track with practicing, and I am improving. :-) I still have trouble with the phone, but I haven't had as much practice (hoping to change that asap). Anyways, the Rondo is great - in my experience. The only negative thing about the Rondo is the batteries only last four days, so you go through a pack of six batteries in 8 days. I wish the Rondo either had some kind of rechargeable batteries or lasted longer than four days.
