It's an auditory brainstem implant - actually I would bet that child has retrocochlear hearing loss and that's why she does not benefit form CI.

 

Text is right - this implant appeared in Europe before 13 years. Even in Croatia we have 1 recipient :) but main surgeon is dr. Coletti from Verona.

I would be very curious to how that technology advances. I was told that the patient wouldn't get much if any benefit from it.

No, that's not true - dr. Colette has substantial results.

Also, here on the forum was a deaf engineer who went through the process of getting ABI because his cochleas calcified and cochlear implantation seemed unsucceful. 

The key of the implantation is to put the electrode at the right place.

Also, not so away - there was a clip of a boy who also got ABI.

That is great to hear ivana!! One thing I like about Mede-el is that they have electrode arrays for those that have some obstruction in the cochlea via calcification or malformation. This opens the door to so many who thought a CI was out of their reach.
