I have a doctor's appointment in the morning as I have been battling flu/ cold for 8 days. Coughing has caused my eardrums to swell. If she prescribes ear drops, can I use them in my implanted ear?

Sandy,

If you have flu/cold - you don't need eardrops than nasal spray. Cough is not cause of your eardrum inlammation than dissepating swelling of nasal mucosa over Eustachian tube to middle ear and eardrum.

With nasal speay you will open your tubes and ventilate middle ear naturally.

Antibiotic you would need if you have pus discharge, pain, temperature etc.

Ivana is correct. To answer the ear drop question, at any time in the future you need them, it is ok to use on yhe implanted ear. The drops don't go anywhere near the implant. They are designed to be water tight. I have had to use them in the past and had no negative effects from it. One of my ear drums has a hole in it that is not going to close.

I hope you feel better soon.

Ivana, I had chronic fluid build up behind the tympanic membrane for a number of years. My Ent could not figure out why so he put a tube in. I had one long enough that when it fell out, the hole never closed. It still drains.

Mmm... But you have open way to get meningitis as easy as cake...:( :(

This is not good - almost every time, it should be repaired eardrum at first and then CI implantation.
